Academy 1/35 Black Hawk

Hi there,

Well, i wasn't content with the look of the outside of the, i called it exhaust covers (part B12 & B13).

I already glued them in place as the instruction sheet shows, but after seeing some pictures on the net, i decided to cut them off.

I've drilled 0.3 milimeter holes (just a little bit) as guide to add new plasticard or brass

What am i doing???????

Thinking about the end result........

I mean like this

exhaust_lh4.jpg

So, i've tried to use part 12 as a mould and used some thin copper 0,01 milimeter and bent it in shape.

That was not so difficult, but now i'm gonna think how i wil fix it like the way i want it.

WOW -

this is one of the best helicopter builds I think I have ever seen!

Very very informative

awesome job so far - what did you use for the wires on the rotor hub? Those look very realistic!

Frank

Hi there,

Firts of all i wanna thank everybody for the feedback and Mog THANK YOU VERY MUCH for sending these pictures. They are very worthwhile. I had already a few good pics, but yours are mucg better. I really appreciate this. I have to think a few days how ik wil fix everything together. I bought some copper rod and its the smallest which i can get here in the local hobbyshop, but in my opinion its a little bit too thick, its 1,5 milimeter, so i'm gonna search for a shop who has this in 1 milimeter.

Otherwise i have to rasp it dowm to 1 milimeter by my own. Very nice job to do i guess. Some kind of challenge.... :woo:

In the meantime i've glued yesterday about 20 photoetched parts from the eduard exteriorset to the fuselage.

Hi Frank,

The wires on the rotor hub are made from 0,3 milimeter copper wire.

The picture below show how i did it. In this case, i used copper wire with 2 different sizes.

I also have read somewhere that som guys prefer to use a string for a guitar.

It sounds good but i've tried this a long time ago and found out that the string ain't so easy to get in the right shape because its pretty rigid.

Looks great so far! The thing i see about the kit is they made the HIRSS (Engine) exhuast too horizontal, when viewed from the side. It should point slightly downwards. Its one of the things i need to figure out how to fix before I begin my UH-60s.

the kit

the real deal

Notice where the bottom of the HIRSS is in relation to the vent near the HIRSS support struts. When I figure out how Im going to fix that, I might start mine.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Hi everyone,

I worked the last few days mostly by thinking how to do the HIRSS (exhaust) And Mog, thank you very much for the critic an pics.

You are right about the things (parts B12 en B13) These parts from the academy kit are indeed too much horizontal and should, like you said, more point slightly downwards.

After seeing the pictures i decided to do this, because i think that the whole engine parts from the kit are pretty poor in detail.

So, what i'm gonna do today is making a new mould. I will use the parst B12 & 13 as a basic.

I wil give an explanation later this day with some photo's about how i did this.

Like i said in my earlier reply the 1,5 milimeter rod is a little bit too thick. Although, i decided to give it a try. I cut off 4 pieces of 22 milimeter and soldered them together. I did this because it would be much easier to get 4 exactly the same stabilisers. After i rasped it in the right shape i seperate the parts by reheat them again, as you can see on the pictures.

Her you can see some little white points.

While the old stabilizers where glued to the parts, i drilled 0,3 milimeter, just a little bit into the parts, so i can use them as a ruler/guide for the new copper stabilizers

It looks pretty good to me, what do you guys think?

I have also some photoetched parts which are for the lower parts B12 & 13.

Bending photoetched ain't so difficult, but these parts a very little. Weel i give it a try.

And i won't forget the suggestion from Mog about the bottom of the HIRSS, which are in relation to the vents near the HIRSS supported struts.

Still a lot to think about how to do it.

Ther will be a solution

For so far

Regards from the Netherlands

Henk

Hey Henk! Love what you did with the engine stabilizers. Really crafty workmanship you got there. Man I should get me some of that brass rod, its amanzing what you can do with that.
