Hey there folks,

I'd better get my arse in gear if I'm gonna finish this GB on time!

CF-NUS-01.jpg

Spitfire Mk IXc NH188, registered to John Patterson as CF-NUS in the early sixties.

John flew Spits with 421 Sqn RCAF in the war, hence the 'Red Indian' on the cowl.

(421 Squadron was sponsored by McColl-Frontenac (Canadian version of Texaco Oil), and the Indian Head was their logo)

Had flown earlier in Belgium as OO-ARC (how appropriate!) :)

The aircraft is now at the Canada Aviation Museum in Rockcliffe (Ottawa), although painted in incorrect colours for a Mk IX ;)

Now, onto the sprue shot.

1/48th ICM kit (I picked up 3 or 4 kits of this Danish Mk IXe boxing for $10 apiece!)

Whiskey Jack Decals

Ultracast resin parts

Xtracolor 'Southwest Airlines Canyon Blue' for the 'Kingfisher Blue'

Squadron vacuformed canopy 'just in case'

I also borrowed 2 cannon 'stubs' from another ICM kit (they're grey instead of white)

All I have done so far is glued the cannon bay covers into the wing openings and painted the cockpit parts black in preparation for a coat of interior green (the RAF kind :()

No engine in this bird! I know it looks nice, but you can't see it when the cowl is all 'buttoned up'.

Ultracast bits:

4 blade Rotol prop & spinner

Mk IX tubular exhausts

4 spoke treaded tires

lower cowl with late-style intake

Hopefully I get it done on time!

:)
