vinyl tracks for M-113

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I have a question for all the tank guys out there. I have a M-163 VADS and M-901 Hammerhead from Italeri. Both of them have the styrene tracks. I would like to use vinyl tracks cause I really don't like those styrene ones that are in sections. Would it be possible to use vinyl tracks from one of the other companies that makes a M-113 (I.E. Tamiya, Academy)?

Here is a scan of the AFV vinyl tracks from the M-548 Gun Truck kit. I think AFV sells these separately, I've seen them on ebay. The Tamiya tracks are very old and have very little detail.. Don M

Here is a scan of the Tamiya tracks. They have no detail on the inside of the tracks. Don M.

Paul, there are some differences in tracks. I think for either of your kits the AFV 35065 T130E1 Track for M-730/M-548 would be the best bet. There are tracks for the basic M-113 and some NATO vehicle tracks. I think most of the difference are in the types of pads on the tracks. HTH. You may want to check with some of the guys over at Missing-lynx or Armorama. Don M.

MAke sure you get the right AFV club tracks - both in terms of length and track style. Viper 50 has shown the correct style tracks for an M-163, but, I believe AFV club makes them in two different lengths. I know they do for the Diehl tracks (the ones with the end connectors) as it takes a couple extra links for the Chapparal and M548. The same may hold true for the US pattern tracks.
