Hello All,

I was wondering if any fine people could help..

My son has a project he has to do for school, it's about how transport has changed since the 1940s

And if it were warplanes I'd be alright..

So I was hoping I could get some help here..

Would somebody be so kind as give me types/and year they flew?

5-6 would do,

any help would be most welcome..

Mark

So you need 5-6 airliners since the 1940s? That's easy!

First jet airliner: deHavilland Comet I, first flight 1949

First successful jet airliner: Boeing 707. First flight of the prototype (the Boeing 367-80, or "Dash-80") 1954. Entered airline service in 1958.

First successful short-haul jet airliner: Sud Caravelle, first flew in 1955

Between 1956 and 1958, the only jet airliner in service anywhere in the world was the Tupolev Tu-104. It flew after the Comet and the Caravelle, but entered mainline service with Aeroflot in 1956.

First successful three-engined jet airliner: Boeing 727, first flight 1963

Most successful jet airliner in history (with over 6000 delivered as of 2009): Boeing 737, first flew in 1967. Also has more variants than any other jetliner. Variants include the 737-100, -200, -300, -400, -500, -600, -700, -800, -900, and -900ER (extended range).

Most successful "jumbo" jet: Boeing 747

There are others that could be included, but those are the biggies.

Some 737 trivia, courtesy of Boeing's web site:

There are so many 737s in service that there are about 1250 in the air at any given moment, with one taking off every five seconds! They have carried about 12 billion passengers, flown over 75 billion miles, and over 296,000,000 hours.

You want just jets or all commercial transports? Don't forget the Lockheed Electra, The tri jet jumbos(L1011, DC10). And the MD twins(DC9, MD80 series), The VC10, Britannia, IL62, TU 124, TU134
