sv51macross
I'm looking at pics of Mongols and comparing them to Fishbeds and I was wondering why the inlet is so much smaller on the trainer than on the normal jet. Is it like a restrictor plate, to limit performance of the engine or is it due to a smaller, non-radar-housing intake cone that allows for a smaller (and sleeker?) inlet to be used? rav_pl
why the inlet is so much smaller on the trainer than on the normal jet. The trainers were based on early "normal jet" MiG-21F, which had the same small inlet. Later "normal jets" got radar housed in the nose cone, which caused enlargement of inlet. Radar was not fitted on trainers, so the inlet was left unchanged.
