sorry for the bad quality of the pic .....

Please have in mind that the exhibition states all the props and models ARE the ones used on the making of the movies... The doubt?? remember how the AMT model is assembled and the monkey on the office.......

Thanks for your comments!!

Maybe they use the "Studio Model" term loosely ...

This might be the AMT kit built by a ILM Studio modeler ...

I've seen actual filmed for the movies studio models, this was back in the 1987 at Disneyland when Star Tours first opened ...

Except that a number of filming minis had shades of blue-gray on them, notably TIE fighters and interceptors, and Y-wings. It's possible the model in the OP was used in the movies, but assuming it was an AMT model it may have been used as background filler. The effects modelers were known to use MPC Star Wars kits for some of their work.

It is in fact one of the fabled MPC kit filming models. They were used in Return of the Jedi for some of the larger battle scenes. Thanks for those pictures. Got any more of it? Id like to see the other side or underside.

HWR is probably correct. I haven't seen pictures of the MPC studio models, so I can't confirm if this particular X-Wing is one of them, but it probably is.

By ROTJ, the MPC kits had been out for a few years and as such, given the scope of the battle sequences around the Death Star in that film, some MPC models were used to swell the ranks of the rebel fleet in certain shots where ships were needed in the background. It wasn't the first time ILM had used MPC Star Wars kits as it seems for Empire Strikes Back, they did utilize the wings of the MPC Vader's TIE Fighter to make the TIE Bomber studio model (after a bit of modification though).

Seeing how the wings are closed its most likely used in Empire and Jedi. Lukes X-wing. The distant shots as it approached cloud city and as it was leaving Tatooine in jedi. Could have been used in some of the fleet scenes in jedi as they were gathering before the jump. Im not one crazy enough to freezeframe the movie to find out.

It's not Luke's X-Wing. Luke's was Red 5 and since this one has only two red stripes on the wing's trailing edges, that would make this one Red 2 which was Wedge Antilles' ship in A New Hope. Since Wedge was promoted to Red Leader (Red 1) by Jedi obviously someone else would be flying Red 2 in the film, in fact Wedge specifically mentions this when he compliments Red 2 on a nice shot.

So does that mean that the AMT kit is an inaccurate scale model of a studio prop, but an accurate 1:1 replica of a... different studio prop? :P Meaning the 1/72 and 1/48 Fine Molds kits are actually inaccurate, from a certain perspective?
