northeaste36
This may be a silly question, i haven't used a lot of grenade launchers... This is for a m113a3 what-if.
Chorse6
I'm reaching back a little bit, but I recall it having a flash suppressor. I only saw one fire once. Not as loud as a M60 or 240, but not as silent as the M203 grenade launcher. Pretty neat little gun.
frankycee
I've seen a couple of firings... Not a whole lot of flash, smoke and/or noise since the rounds have little propellant/velocity... So for a 'firing' model display, I'd go very light on the smoke/fire/flash... Look up Mk.19s on you tube, you'll surely see alot of videos of live-fire demonstrations... Not a firing model, I meant would the mk19 ever see a scenario where it would be fitted with an additional suppressor.

Not likely, it already has a suppressor similar to what is on most rifle's and MG's. I really cant see there being a need to suppress it further considering it's purpose. The noise from the is similar to the 203, they are the same round after all. And there is pretty much no smoke and little flash to speak of. They are fun to play with, I'm pretty sure it's the weapon of this type where I could actually see the round leave the barrel and travel away into the distance. Too true! kind of a hollow thunk when you shoot them, not real loud. a longer barrel and less propellant would probably get them a little quiter though?
kg4kpg
This may be a silly question, i haven't used a lot of grenade launchers...This is for a m113a3 what-if. Oh man what a hoot to shoot. It's not loud at all. Just a nice solid thump or maybe a muffled shot gun type pop. I have a short video I shot in Iraq standing right next to one on a guard tower, we test fired daily, I'll grab it from the portable hard drive and send it to you. Some Good M-2 .50 cal vid also, my baby.

DavidJZill
I was a machine gunner in the marines. They MK-19 mod III is fairly quiet for a machine gun. The only thing coming from the muzzle other than the round is propellant exhaust. There would be no need for a suppressor of any type. Probably the qietest machine gun ever. jochemp
It's really quiet... something like a (chunk, chunk, chunk) noise, but on the receiving end... there are lots of flash and flames!
11bee
Maybe ours were beat to s**t but the noise it made a good number of times was "chunk..... click.... click....". They were not the most reliable weapons out there. I've heard similar stories from guys who have used it over there. On the other hand, here is a nice looking rig: http://defense-update.com/products/m/M47striker40.htm They are supposed to replace all the Mk 19's (at least in the Army) within a few years. They are already in service in Afghanistan.
NWarty
Yep..."Chunk, click, click" is right. The amount of lube needed for firing is ridiculous. I put two cans through our Mk-19's back in April. Fun weapon to shoot and incredibly quiet.
afspret
As a former PACAF HW Specialist way back when, I recall it was a fairly quiet weapon to fire and only a puff of smoke from the barrel could be seen. It was a fun weapon to shoot, but nothin' rocks like the OL' MA-DEUCE!
Skyraider Maniac
but nothin' rocks like the OL' MA-DEUCE! I was about to say......you just beat me to it! mk 19 can suck it! ma deuce is the way to go!!!
11bee
The .50 cal is a freakin' beast!! Gotta be in the top 2-3 contenders for best designed weapon ever made. The only small drawback was having to mess with the headspacing but otherwise, this thing kicks butt. It's been chewing up bad guys (literally) since WW1. Not many other weapons can claim to have been in active service that long.
