WarFace
Hi there I want to add a little description of my aircraft to the display base i will be putting it on. Its a wooden base with very nice finish. What is the best way to attach it o the displaybase? I was thinking print on good quality paper, then laminate it, trim it down then (somehow) stic it on. I afraid superglue will just eat through the lamiante plastic and paper but i want to have a nice smooth finish and make it all seem like one piece? Im open to all suggestions. Its a present for me pop so as you can imagine i want it to be perfect. Many Thanks in advance.
Edgar
If it's laminated, you could use double-sided tape. Edgar
Grey Ghost 531
Take the text on a disk to the local print shop and have them print it on clear plastic backwards. Put that over a metal plate or a colored background or just onto the base itself. I've seen it done and it looks good, printing it backwards lets you see the text through the clear plastic and it protects it from scratching.
WarFace
now that is a good idea. What do you do to attach it to the base? is it sticky also? Thanks!
ilpwnp
I've done this by printing out my text on clear decal paper, then cut a piece of sheet styrene and apply the decal, clearcoat it and attach it to the base with white glue
Trojan Thunder
Just a note on Superglue, it won't eat through laminated plastic, so don't worry there. I usually print the label to glossy photopaper, seal it with a coat of future and glue it to the base with either spray contact glue or white glue.
GreyGhost
Or ... if you want to go real fancy ... Go to a Trophy Shop and have a plaque engraved ... Even some jewelry stores or department stores with jewelry departments can do that ... Gregg
Camo
Why not get a nice small piece of polished metal engraved? and screw it down with small screws or something? Engraving from memory isn't really all that expensive, but not quite as cheap as laminating... Edit: Erf beaten, that'll teach me to leave a page sitting there for a few hours without refreshing Edited May 29, 2009 by Camo
WarFace
Thanks guys for the ideas. I need to do a block of text so a bit too much for engraving but it was a good idea.
