Reddog
Their setting up to do an aysmetery check of the slats and flaps after re-rigging them. They must have had a flap/slat lock out and had to re-rig the flap/slat system, one of the most dredded things for a F-14 Airframer. The cables are running from the sequencers to a test set, the test set tells them if everything is operating in unison. Man, I remember having to be up there and QA'ing those test, what a PITA they were. Reddog

phantom
That looks like a retired airframe on CV-63, being moved around by crews in training.

Adam Baker
Neat pic, might make for an interesting diorama scene. http://www.flickr.com/photos/mateus27_24-25/2639972211/

Reddog
It's a picture of how crash n' smash can destroy a F-14 with out even working at it, all they have to do is do hoist training. Watch crash n' smash brake an -18' back on the Ike about 10 years ago, seems someone forgot to install one of the hoist points correctly and when they went to lift it it didn't like it. To me knowledge, the bird never flew again, it was craned off at the end of the work ups and used for parts. Never let crash n' smash on you aircraft if you ever want it to fly again, we don't call the crash n' smash for nothing. Reddog
Skyraider Maniac
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mateus27_24-25/2639972211/ Thats cool - awesome pic! Been on the JFK one time - when it was in Port in Norfolk, VA - they had an open house and I got to go up and see it - awesome thing to do when you're a kid -_-
S.C.Williams
THIS must have been hell for airframers as well! Steve
Reddog
IIRC that was one of VF-154's that they lost in the late 90's. There's a pic on the web of the tail section also. BTW, Airframes could fix that, for the right price. Reddog
Adam Baker
Holy crap, did that one ditch in the drink or something?
Reddog
IIRC that is the one that the aircrew had to eject at the end of a cat stroke, can't remember why though. So, yes it went swimming and entered the water in a rather ugly way. Reddog
