TECHNICAL MANUAL EXTERIOR FINISHES, INSIGNIA AND MARKINGS,APPLICABLE TO USAF AIRCRAFT Also Available 21 March 1978.

For modelers of USAF subjects, finding reliable information for the proper colors and markings of Air Force aircraft can be hard to locate. One of the more sought-after references is the USAF Technical Order 1-1-4 which is what maintenance and depot crews used to repaint and stencil aircraft.

As a further addition to this release, we've included the 12 Jun 1986, 23 August 1971, 17 September 1968 and 1 May 1968 of MIL-AND MARKINGS-2161A Paint Schemes and Exterior Markings For US Navy and Marine Corps Aircraft.

General. This military standard establishes the requirements for paint schemes and markings to be applied to the exterior surfaces of U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aircraft, including those procured for other government agencies and foreign countries under Navy contracts. The requirements for paint schemes and markings include size, color, and approximate placement locations, where applicable, as shown in Appendices A – E. This standard also provides a mechanism to obtain approval for deviation from these requirements.
