Modelling the Hornet from 'Behind Enemy Lines'

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Have gleaned the following information from Wikipedia, I still have a number of questions:

"Scripting and costuming place Stackhouse and Burnett in the squadron VFA-163 Ark Angels. The real VFA-163 squadron was decommissioned well before the Super Hornet was put into service. The Super Hornet, which did not enter service until 1999, was decorated with VFA-163's 1995 markings on the spine but was in fact on loan from VFA-122."

Is this information accurate? What kits should I go with in 1/48 and 1/72 to portray the movie Hornet? Are there decals available that I could use?

Any help much appreciated guys

Glen

Both Hasegawa and Revel make good kits for 1/48. I prefer the Hasegawa. For decals, several companies have done VFA-122. I believe Two Bobs may have and I know Superscale did. I would use their markings and make the 163 out of spares. I do not recall if the NJ tail code was shown on the movie plane.

During filming they used some F/A-18Ds from VFA-125 also ...

Due to a then lack of Super Hornets in the fleet ...

I remember reading that in a Boeing Frontiers magazine article ...
