mig23
Does anybody know the dimensions of the National Insignia and 'USAF/U.S. Air Force' markings carried on the grey & white prototype F-111s ? Any help appreciated ! Haydn.
UKPonchoMan
I can't believe you're asking that question, Mr USAF!!!
spellbinder99
The first prototype still exists in the display at Edwards, I took some pictures of it back in 1994, but they are not scanned at this moment. Is it possible the markings remained the same after repaint? Cheers Tony
ikar
You mean these guys?
mig23
As usual Robert you have the pictures ! I'm doing one for our Edwards display and I'm now ready for decalling. It's always a help if the actual sizes of the marking are known but I have plenty of pictures I can make guesses from. It's moved on bit from this.... Cheers, Haydn. (I'll ignore that remark UKponchoman ! )
Jennings
I have scale drawings at home, so I can figure this out in a snap - except that the power supply on my computer packed it in last night. I won't be back on the air from home probably until Monday. J
ikar
I really should do one of those someday. If I could get to my -4 T.O. I could probably get the sizes of all the markings but I think it got buries somewhere in a closet in the computer room. If I can find it, I'll post it.
SteveV22FE
I built RTD&E #1 out of the old Monogram 1/48 Scale kit.....she didn't turn out half bad.... Edited July 17, 2009 by SteveV22FE
mig23
Hey Steve - very nice looking model ! Thanks for posting that. Rob and Jennings - I'd certainly appreciate seeing anything you have but don't go busting a gut to dig it out. Cheers, Haydn. Edited July 17, 2009 by mig23
ikar
I've check my copy of the -4 from 1977 and it doesn't cover the gray F-111s. However in the markings section it shows the tail numbers on a number of other non camoflaged aircraft as being 15 inches high. The national insignia was usually 30" on the fuselage and 40" on the wings of similar sized fighters. The U.S. Air Force is probably 12" and the U.S.A.F. on the wings will be 30'. Again I'm going by other fighters as being in its prototype stage it wasn't put into the -4, only the camoflaged ones.
