Marcel, that F-14 is looking superb,...... wow, what a nice job you are doing on it.

I'm sorry, but I'd have to disagree with you Jeff, its one of the worst looking F-14's I've seen.... but it's one hell of a F-18!! Exellent work Marcel!!

The decals are on... those MAW decals are the stuff, the register and colors are perfect, they are very finely printed and very thin...

Next up, a little more washing over some of the decals, and then I'll grab the pastels...

:D

man, that's a beauty Marcel! It will look incredible when finished I am sure.

Just an observation, should the VMFA(AW)-224 be more level on the side of the fuselage, as seen in the 4th pic?

Thx Ken! You are right, that script really does slope down/up but that's the way it is on the real thing, take a look here and especially here. Incidentally, the markings underneath the cockpit are all aligned to the cockpit shoulder vs being level. Looks like whoever applied the markins just used a panel line or such to align the marking vs. using a spirit level  .

Cheers,

Marcel

WOW, Marcel this is one sick looking Hornet! Great job!

Thx Jeremy! How is yours doing? Have you solved your undercarriage headache? I'm about to start building my main undercarriage, probably the least favourite part of a build for me, generally speaking.

Cheers,

Marcel

Hi guys, here's another update. I did a little bit more weathering with pastels, then on with the Testors flat coat. I always follow the final coat with a rub-down of all the major areas with kitchen roll, this removes the granular effect that can otherwise be quite prevalent with flat coats.

Top side:

Wing close up. It took me about a week to get the leading edge flap actuator hydraulic leak stains to the point where I thought they are okay.

More pastel action here:

Underside, nice and dirty:

And finally, a sneak preview of the cockpit, I just dropped the seats in there to see what things may look like. Plenty of work left to do here.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,

Marcel

WOW, Marcel, great job on this bird! I kind of put mine on the back burner, but now that my next door neighbor gave me his older compressor I am now able to get some painting done. Hopefully get something on her very soon! BTW, my undercaraige will probably be last thing on but still havent figured out about the linkages, but I might just by the SAC gear and order a sprue of the linkages from Academy. Hopefully :jaw-dropping:

Really great job Marcel! Your weathering indicates that you really "get it" when it comes to making a fighter look accurate. The subtle touches are really artistic, which makes it all the more satisfying, at least to me. I look forward to the final countdown as you finish this masterpiece.

Hi Marcel,

I echo what Chuck said. You obviously pay a great deal of attention to getting the weathering looking just right and I applaud you for that. Having attempted a little of the weathering myself recently, I have an even greater respect for you guys now.

Looking great :worship:
