Blackcollar
Looking good.. I remember when I was a teenager how quickly I went through a kit versus the time I take to get it right nowadays... -Al
Skyking
HI Mark, Nice to see you going on this one again. I'll be following along and taking notes. Cheers Mike
Nessus
Nice recovery work Mark, looks like newe again. I was stunned by the detail of your landing gear by seeing the earlier pictures of it, but the picture of the damaged struts is showing even more detail. Wow, such a small Equipment/Part plate on a model.... Still following with great respect. Matthijs
Kostucha
Thank you very much everyone! Greatly appreciated. Progress tonight is in the details - rather, the small pieces that are almost forgotten - well, I almost forgot one. Starting off, repairs continued, I wanted to get the seat back in, along with that scratch built radio. Here's the seat in, and the radio: While putting the radio in, I realized I've got the deck I made for the Morse-code system, wires and all, but, no actual pressel switch: So, work started, going through a couple books, and getting the details I needed, I threw something together: And here it is mounted in: So, with that in, there's a few pieces left to work on, the cable wind up spool, the back strap for the rear gunner, as well as the hood for the front end: I'm hoping I can get another update in tonight. Until next time though, take care all, and thanks for looking Mark.
Blackcollar
What a beauty, but you have to go into the next room to get a full shot.... -Al
Kostucha
Al, Haha, oh, so true, so true! Thank you very much. A little more work continued tonight. Between watching playoff hockey, I was bouncing between areas while I waited for paint to dry. The first thing I did was see if there was a way to save those clear pieces I used before as masking covers while painting the body. Here's the pilots canopy: And believe it or not, using Q-tips, lots of Q-tips, a nicely ventilated outside, and super glue accelerator, I got this result - like new! I also built up the antenna spool a little bit too, more work left, but this was a "time killer" piece tonight: And these two shots showing the horizontal stab on: more in a few minutes... Kostucha
I did get the hood done too. I cut off the two mounting posts for the pad, and used a round piece of evergreen plastic rod to get a nice clean rounded look. When it came to colours, I've found many pictures of both black top, RLM 02 bottom, an black top and bottom. I did find one definitive picture of a B-1 from the same unit showing quite evidently that the hood was black underneath, so that's what I opted to go with. The pad was left slightly glossy, it'll be hit with some darker pastels later on once everything is mounted on nicely: I opted to leave the Revi gunsight off until just before I mount the canopy on - I don't want it getting wrecked, but here's some shots of before, with the hood mounted on, and a mock up with the canopy over top of the hood: Thank you all for looking. More hopefully in the next couple of days. Mark.
Nessus
Hi Mark, I noticed that you take great efford in researching the details you apply. How serious are you with getting these details historical correct? How far do you go when some details aren't quite certain, are you okay with cheating a bit when easier or better for the overall picture? By the way, great pictures. HOLMES
WHOA!!!!! I cannot take MY eyes off the seat and the cockpit... the work there is just OUTSTANDING.. Kostucha
Hi Mark,I noticed that you take great efford in researching the details you apply. How serious are you with getting these details historical correct? How far do you go when some details aren't quite certain, are you okay with cheating a bit when easier or better for the overall picture? By the way, great pictures. Matthijs Matthijs Although I have a lot of reference material and do everything I can in order to get the model as accurate as possible, basing it off of one particular aircraft that has VERY few pictures of it, and was under the mud for almost 55 years brings up a number of challenges. Challenges such as what particular modifications could have been in it that the crew made. With this particular model I am striving to make it as accurate as I can, using reference material, pictures, descriptions, etc. Some details that are missing on parts will be redone - especially within the cockpit, as well as the engine and other key areas. I honestly don't know when I'll build another one up to the details of this Stuka - it wont be a random choice of aircraft (Ie, it wont be the Hurricane, or 190 - they're just going to be fun). Hope this answers your questions. Holmes, thank you very much! Well, I've been quite busy with an exam the last week, but all is well. Tonight I'll keep hammering away as some of the details. I want to start finishing up everything on the exterior and get things ready and move towards work needed to mask up and start the exterior paint work. More updates soon! Mark. chuck540z3
The only thing better than your modeling skills is your tenacity to get this build going again, even with all the broken pieces and obvious heartache. Most, including me, would have thrown it against a wall. Keep it up Mark!
Nessus
Hi Mark, Not wanting to be rude or something (I'm just a newbie on this forum), but I think you've made a mix up with your undercarrige. In a more simpeler model nobody probably noticed, but you've put so much detail on it that is it shows. I think you've mistakenly made it into a late D-model instead of the B1 that Phil is trying to restore. The main difference are the attachements points of the spa'ts. They changed them in the late D models and put the mounts in front instead of the earlier ( models. I don't know if you are going to do something with this information, but you seemed someone who whould care. Futhermore, keep up the good work on building this model. I really love to see all these kind of detialing in a model. Matthijs

Kostucha
Soon, soon my friend! It's a busy time right now with a move this week... rather, the final parts of the move this week, to get myself situated, only to turn around and travel around a bit more. That aside, I do plan on getting back to 'er soon. I want to finish a Mitchell I'm working on right now, then do a quick little build on a 1/72 Dash 8 that will be turned into a bit of a desk display of the CT-142 Gonzo that I completed my final checkride on to get my AES Op wings. After that, it's getting a good ole stash of books out, all the reference material organized, and thinking about it some more, taking a couple steps back and working towards finally finishing this... errr... enjoyable build. Not much left though, it's just simple things... but a lot of them. I reall do hope to carry on with the Stuka and get her all finally finished soon. Hopefully picking up on 'er again sometime around the end of August. Fingers crossed and unglued.
GreyGhost
Mark, hope you can get settled soon, just for the peace of mind ... I too am looking forward to when you can resume this awesome build ... Gregg
Obant
Extraordinary, just extraordinary work! am thoroughly enjoying this one too - you and your fellow builders are rapidly replacing my TV for my primary source of entertainment. Looking forward to more ...
Kostucha
Thank you all very much! I actually pulled out the Stuka and plugged away on 'er a little bit while I was waiting for paint and glue to dry on the Mitchell. Got a few more panes foiled, and as well, sanded down some of the rather large pop rivets. Further, a few small things were done as well. It's getting quite close to being masked off and painted. It's a matter of getting some more rivet lines put in, masking off parts, and then the Standard Ju-87 paint scheme is applied. Though I'm not too certain as to what markings will be going on... T6+?? Pictures to come as soon as I get a camera battery charger. Cheers!
