Spaced Marine
What's the skinny on the Academy 1/48 Mig-29A? I've been jonesin' for a nice quarter scale Mig, and I think this one might be for me. What's everyone's opinion of the kit and the after market that's available for it? Thanks guys.
sv51macross
Built it, and while the fit is good not so hot on accuracy. People have said the shape is off but IMO it looks pretty damn good. Also, cockpit's total crap (esp. the ejection seat; looks like a recliner). Go for the standard one with the Luftwaffe bird on the box as the Ukraine version comes with really thick-finned missiles. That aside, it's leagues ahead of the Monogram kit, so it is your only option. But it's a good option. Usual assortment of cockpits available, but there's also wheel well sets too. Neomega even made a 9-13 (humpback spine) conversion but that's long OOP and hard to find.
C-130CrewChief
I liked it. Here's what you can do OOB. All I added were brake lines, and Soviet markings from the spares bin. Curt
Andre
I'm mostly a 1/72nd guy, but I believe the biggest issue with the Academy kit is the nose which is supposedly off. This thread may be of help. HTH, Andre
Spaced Marine
Thank y'all. You've pretty much confirmed what I've suspected about the kit...
Nate
If you're still jonesin' for one, I have one with an Aires 'pit and PART PE....PM me if you're interested...... B)

borz666
Not a bad kit, but needs some money thrown at it!, here's mine with Aires Pit and wheel wells (the wheel wells are a real PITA to fit) and a Quickboost nose cone (a MUST!) : I probably won't build another though! Come on Hasegawa, pull your fingers out! (having said that, if hasegawa made a 1/48 Mig-29 it would probably cost the same as the Academy and all the AM!). C-130CrewChief
Thanks for the comments. The cockpit was a bit... Spartin.. I also seem to recall some nasty seams around the nose ares and the LEX areas. A bit of sanding and all was good. I gave it to a buddy at work after he kept looking at it in my shop. I'm sure it's in 75 pieces by now...lol I had it sitting next to an F-15C. The F-15 was quite a bit larger. I also gave the F-15C away...lol Curt
KursadA
The nose simply looks wrong and a new nosecone (radome) from Pisco or Quickboost is an absolute must. Other than that, I think it is a reasonable replica and builds well.
TaiidanTomcat
I'm sure it's in 75 pieces by now...lol I had it sitting next to an F-15C. As in real life LOL Nice MiG Borz I like the Tri Color on the tail and the cockpit is excellent
Marv
The Academy MiG-29 is a piece of cake compared to it's cousin, the ESCI MiG-23...here's both of them for comparison:
Wayne S
I have to say that is one bird I have never built and would like to someday. Would like to model the MIG-29M OVT and 941. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Russia---Ai...d932027684c5cdb
Kasatka
I believe this article will be of great help http://vodnik.net/pages/mig29/mig29.htm Obviously you would need to update the model with the recent release of aires, eduard, neomega etc.. Sergey
