Great Photos of an interesting aircraft. Where is this museum/display located?

Bill M.

It is on display at in the National Museum of the US Air Force's R&D gallery.

A neat looking airplane, but one that I feel would have been a dead duck in the environment it was geared for.

Interesting to see that the XB-70 is pushed back into the outside hanger. It used to be the entrance centerpiece back in the late 70's early 80's, then I think it was moved into the main museum, now in the aux. hanger.

I have not been since 1982, so the memory is faded a little.

I don't know that it was ever in the main museum building. I know when I visited the museum in 1972, it was out front. In 1984, when I dropped in to Wright-Patt on a T-37 XC flight during UPT, it was still out front - we departed to the southwest and passed the museum, the IP had me bank it up so we could both get a look!
