Gator52
I noticed at a recent airshow that some USAF AGE was gray. Power carts, work stands, air carts, etc; seemed like there was at least one example of each equipment type that was gray. Any ideas what shade gray the cart on the right is? Looks a little lighter than 36118 to me, but maybe it's faded... Thanks, Jonah
Ken Middleton
It looks like Air Mobility Command gray used on Herks, C-17s etc. Don't know the FS off hand
C-130CrewChief
All AGE will be this color. I recently had some of my stuff painted when I did the annual inspections and it came back gray! It's semi gloss and lighter than the gray on the top of the Herk. I'll try and get more info from our corrosion guys. I was told that all AGE was going to be painted as they are cycled through there overhaul cycles. The conversion is supposed to be done by 2012 ( I may be wrong about the date) So this being said.... We are going to have alot of dirty AGE! Hand prints show up really good on the new paint, but it wipes right off. Curt
Gator52
Interesting, thanks for the info. I'd be interested to hear anything else you find out. Jonah Edited August 23, 2009 by Gator52

Seems to me that glossier paint shows more flaws in the paint and dirt shows up "better" but cleans better and seems to be more durable. Think it might be better in the long run for corrosion control?

If you could get hold of any painting guides etc - that would be even better! Chris

Think it might be better in the long run for corrosion control? The green was also semi gloss. The lighter color is why it shows dirt better. I have seen at least one instance so far where hydralic fluid has stained the gray paint. It will be funny if we end up with PINK AGE in 5 years!!!! C-130CrewChief
My friend in the paint shop says it's color # 26173. It's semi gloss and he says it has a name but, can't remember it. I quote.. "It's somthing like Commando gray, but it's not commando, it's somthing else. It's some word like commando?.?.?" That's when he gave me the color # directly off the can! He said it gets one coat of yellow epoxy primer then the gray. This Color! Hope this helps! Curt
Gator52
Sounds like a semi-gloss version of AMC gray, as speculated. Thanks for the info, much appreciated! Jonah
