Red Flag 09-5

Recommended Posts

I spent a few days out in Vegas shooting some airplanes and sweating my behind off. It was nice to get back to Ohio to let the sunburn heal.

The 34th Fighter Squadron officially took part in the Flag, but they brought jets from all three 388FW squadrons.

The UAE came over, bringing some of their jets from Tucson.

VMFA(AW)-121 also came over. It was a surprise to find a C model on the ramp.

Jake I've just this to say..........if you ever post a pic that's disappointing.....I will then know that Hades is covered in ice. Thank you so much......for the photos. Who needs Prime Portal for US aircraft we've got a walking reference Library named J. Melampy, with a camera that doesn't know how to take a bad pic  . You and the others who contribute and post pics here are a god send to us.

Totally groovy pics Jake.

I love the wrinkly BUFFs. Still good looking for such an old lady, she wears her age well.

Those UAE Vipers remind me of HAF birds. Very cool cammo schemes on them. BTW, what is the targetting pod on the left intake cheek? It looks similar to a SNIPER XR but not quite the same......?

Thanks for posting these up buddy, great shots as usual.

p.s.....(Sorry to hear that you've had to suffer for your art. Do you want me to send you some after sun lotion....? :boohoo: )

:taunt:

The little Italians are Aermacchis I think.

The Italians are AMX or "Ghibli" built by a pool made of Alenia-Aermacchi and Embraer.

The AMX is a CAS, recce and light attack aircraft comparable to the Douglas A-4, it is agile but quite underpovered. Since it is also quite expensive (for an aircraft without radar and afterburner) only Brazil and Italy flew it.

You're welcome, guys. I'm happy to share, and thanks for the compliments!

I hadn't heard that before. My escort from the squadron said they'd just gotten it a few weeks ago. He said he thought it came from -235, but wasn't sure.

did you see any rnoaf f-16s over there?

No, not this time. They don't come back until later in the year.

Nice pics thanks for sharing and getting the 104TH bird shots.

You bet, Wayne. The 104th guys were excellent. They were very enthusiastic about getting their photos taken.

Awesome as usual Jake. We expect nothing less from you, but are still always impressed when you deliver. Thank's for sharing them with us.

Aaron

Very nice of you to say, Aaron, thanks!

Yep, there are a LOT of extremely talented photographers on the internet, that's for sure. We're all lucky to have access to their photos.

Interesting that the Eagle took off with the AIM-9X seeker cover still on. Whoops.

Yeah, oops! I wonder if the pilot landed and wrote up his jet as having a problem with the AIM-9!

I'm not really sure what the pod is called, Guy. I am not very knowledgeable about non-US F-16s. The Block 60s sure are neat-looking Vipers!

And, uh, yeah, some sun lotion would be GREAT!! Maybe some nice tequila, too, to dull the pain a bit?

:D

It's part of the AN/AAQ-32 Internal FLIR system the Blk 60's have... I beleive (don't quote me though) its also connected in with the IR detector located on top of the nose.
