Darren Roberts
I've never seen that squadron before, so I broke out my Ginter book on the F-8. It's from VF-132 Peg Leg Pete's (yup, that was the name of the squadron!) assigned to CVW-13. They were disestablished in October 1962.
BAM'n'IVM
They were disestablished in October 1962. Wonder if the reason is related to the event in the photo...
Alternative 4
The size of the rocks make it look like a model or a different planet. Planet of the Apes maybe?
richter111
What I found amazing is the relative lack of damage to the aircraft. I could not drop a piece of paper on the rocks without destroying it.
Keith Diamond
I've never seen that squadron before, so I broke out my Ginter book on the F-8. It's from VF-132 Peg Leg Pete's (yup, that was the name of the squadron!) assigned to CVW-13. They were disestablished in October 1962. I have a F-18 book with several pictures of VFA-132 "Privateers" F-18As in it. They were established ~84 and deestablished around 92-93 IIRC. I had thought there was no history of this unit prior to their establishment as a Hornet squadron, but I'm guessing there might be a connection there.
Darren Roberts
I have a F-18 book with several pictures of VFA-132 "Privateers" F-18As in it. I had thought there was no history of this unit prior to their establishment as a Hornet squadron, but I'm guessing there might be a connection there. I never thought of that. You may be right. The "theme" of their name sure does fit.
