Zmey Smirnoff
I'm sorry to be the wet blanket, but the MiG-31 cockpit color isnt supposed to be light blue. Its turquise green. And the anti-glare parts around the HUD are black, not silver...
Sebastijan
The colour inaccuracies of the cockpit are true, but I think, not much will be seen under a closed cockpit... You should repaint the front part of the pit with black instead of silver though...
4scourge7
Thanks for the comments guys  The flash has brightened the image and, I think, the shade of blue that I have used is defineatly inacurate but not as obvious as the pic makes out. Similarly, the HUD area and seats are infact gunmetal, not silver, which just shows how distorted an image I seem to have given. Hopefully both can be toned-down with a bit of weathering Thanks for keeping me honest though guys, appreciated. Whiles we`re here, can anyone help with my earlier questions? I`ve found the info supplied by the guys invaluable, but I still have three issues to resolve. 1- Have MiG-31 stopped using the wing mounted external fuel tanks on patrol? 2- Are the Revell decals for `Red 22` accurate, just wrongly translated by Revell in the instructions? 3- I`m still not sure what the problem with the intakes is, they look fine on the sprue but this may be clearer when I construct them. Thanks again for the feedback Cheers, Ian
Zmey Smirnoff
1. Yeah, by the looks of it droptanks arent used in day-to-day patrol and training 2. Not familiar with Revell decals. If you could snap a photo of them, I could take a look 3. Here are some photos of the intakes that might help.
Jeff
Thanks Hakan and Sebastijan  , I`ve added a little more but that is enough as there are still pilots to take up residence yet. Cheers all, Ian May I know what kind of firm do you use to make the dials and gauges of the cockpit? This is because all I know is there is only the PART aftermarket cockpit accessories for the 1:72 Mig-31.

4scourge7
Correct, they are OOB Revell cockpit decals. WOW, fantastic pics Zmey, very much appreciated! Real useful info, I will post decals pic when I can. Priceless help Zmey, thanks again! Cheers, Ian
Zmey Smirnoff
Anytime, Ian. Glad to help.
4scourge7
Hi all, MiG-31 going to gether quite well at this point. Started removing incorrect external detail from burner cans (one on right is done, maybe can`t see it in this pic). Cheers, Ian
Berkut
Looks good Ian. :)
Sebastijan
Nice to see the MiG getting its shape. Could we get a close up of the burner cans?
POWERSLAVE
Nice job!! I would like to build one ,too ! But in 48?! Lindberg is nowhere to found and colect aire is too cheap for my budget! Keep on,can't wait to see this gigant done!! Zoran
Azgaron
Nice work Ian! Looking forward to seeing it painted! Cheers, HÃ¥kan

4scourge7
Hi all, and thanks guys for the encouraging words, much appreciated. As promised, a pic of the decal sheet, I`m not sure if this is a better picture of the `burner cans as we`ll soon find out when I hit `post`. I defineatly feel they need more work. So much for OOB! Thanks again Cheers, Ian PS- okay a better pic of the cans but still not great, the one on the left has been roughly sanded and waiting for detailing. 4scourge7
Wow...this is a big ol` hunk of aircraft, even in 72nd scale! <_< Burner cans coming along nicely (camera flash has `bleached` the image a bit). Kit really goes together well. Cheers, Ian
Marlin
WOW I really like this MiG, Ian. Just how big is it? If only I could get one in 1/48th. Real good work, but I miss the smurfs /Bosse
spyromania
Wow. That is indeed a big plane. never realized that. just comparing to the pilots in the cockpit. Mother Russia made indeed. Good job Ian. yeaaaaahhhhhhhhh (just an encouragement shout) ! Chris
Berkut
Just how big is it? /Bosse It is huge. Don't remember how may cm, but it is big enough. Probably one of the biggest fighters out there, and with the biggest nose i guess for the huge radar.
Sebastijan
IIRC 25 is even bigger... at least the engines are!
4scourge7
I haven`t forgotten...just got a little sidetracked. Not far from overall paintscheme. Cheers all, Ian
Berkut
May i ask why you did the wash now? As i weak "preshading"? If that will work, it will probably look better than standard preshading.

I don`t know how this will work out....here`s hoping! <_< Cheers, Ian
pkrasna
Nice looking MiG!!!! Primož
4scourge7
Thanks for the kind comments guys! I`ve been working on The Beast and am decalling now. I assume the 01/03/10 closing date includes today (the 1st). One side decalled, just top and bottom, and portside to go. This really is a nice kit and excellent decals sheet, the undercart is a bit fragile but then this is due to the level of detail and the couple of hard landings that I gave Her during final painting (poor thing!) Cheers, Ian
