1/32 Russian Missile Pylons

243 posts in this topic

Well,for me,R-27 and R-73 or R-60 is enough for a 3rd generation Soviet fighter.

(Actually I don't think R-77 looks very "Russian" I mean.)

Hi Yufei!

Maybe you are right, it looks similar to some NATO missiles (can't remember), but to my knowledge,

not any has those unique rear steering "grates". ;)

So finally "Americanskie" missiles!

What's the next plan then?Sparrow?

I must grad them for my eagles and hornets.

Cheers,

Yufei

Yes, "Americanskie rakety" :). As for the Sparrow, I'm actually not bearing in mind mastering it,

maybe Chris will.

"Grad"? Sorry but my English is poor enough to figure what do you mean exactly.

Maybe "grab" ?

BTW, how big is a flock of your eagles and hornets?

Cheers and happy modeling!

Alexander.

Yes,of course!

So that's why I'm wondering for the possibility of Sparrow releasing.

just saw on Zacto's website that MiG-21 pylons are coming!

Now, how about some Atolls?

MiG-21 pylons are back on the bench.

First up is the BDZ-60-21D:

BDZ-60-21D_1.jpg

BDZ-60-21D_2.jpg

Next will be the BDZ-60-21R which is similar but longer at the rear.

Both of these pylons will then be re-worked with the extra heavy-duty hardware that appears on many later Fishbeds.

The heavy duty BDZ-60R will then be modified to a BDZ-60-23R for the MiG-23.

Additional launch rails will be coming as well.

Atolls are also in the future.

For comparison:

I will also be doing sway braces and extra hardware to mount on the pylons.

Great job, Chris! They look smashing! ;)

It would be nice to show R-60 attached to keen the attention. ;)

Thanks Alexander

I will eventually post pics with the different weapons attached. First I will need to make launch rails for them or in the case of the APU-60 modify the one you supplied for the MiG-29 to include mounting details on its' topside.

Here are the next generation of the BDZ-60s with the extra hardware attached:

BDZ-60-21s_2.jpg

Note that the samller pylon has additional material bolted on where it meets the wing which changes its angle to more closely match the larger pylon. I'm guessing this modification was done for firing unguided rockets more accurately?

And here showing the difference between the Trump parts, the early BDZ-60s and the late BDZ-60s:

BDZ-60-21s_3.jpg

Can anybody explain the extra hardware that is bolted on?

It sure isn't there to improve aerodynamics!

Does anybody know if the difference was early vs. late production?

Do the later ones have some kind of different designation or are the still BDZ-60-21D & R?

Hi Chris.

That bolted hardware can be seen on BDZ-60-21R1 is to strengthen the elements that secure the pylon to the wing and yet to strengthen the pylon's locking grip (don't know the exact English equivalent), located inside the pylon.

Cheers!

Alexander.

So am I correct to understand that the designation for the pylon with no hardware is the BDZ-60-21R (and D for the smaller) and with hardware is BDZ-60-21R1 (and D1)?

Thank you for the explanation Alexander

Each pylon will include the following extra brackets and sway braces:

These can be mouted in a variety of different configurations or not at all...

Will these ones also be available at the Nationals, Chris?
Yes, but I'll only have a few sets there.

If anybody wants me to hold a set then e-mail me about it.

APU-60 single Aphid launch rail is finished.

APU-60_1.jpg

Dual launch rails will be coming soon!

The pattern was originally made by Alexander for the MiG-29.

I modified it to fit the BDZ-60 pylons I made for the MiG-21.

APU-60_2.jpg

BDZ-60s for the MiG-23 will be coming soon!

It would be nice to show R-60 attached to keen the attention.
Here you go!

The workmanship here is amazing.

I just ordered the AIM 9L/M in preperation for the new Trumpeter A-4E/F Skyhawk coming out!

Too easy on your website. One minuite I am looking, and imagining what they will look like on the A-4.............next thing I am confirming payment with PayPal!

All we need now are some A-4 pylons?????

Cheers and thanks for producing these beautifully detailed items, it is very much appreciated

Anthony

Looks gorgeous! Any update on the MiG-23 pylons?

(my 2 cents : AFAIK the right designation is BD3, not BDZ)

Cool! The hypnosis software I installed is working!

MiG-23 pylons are up next, followed by the dual Aphid launcher.

I'm 2 cents closer to being rich! 3 = Z

That's absolutelt right : there's no way to tell a capital cyrillic Z from a 3.

But in the case of the BD ("balochniy derzhatel" for "beam-type rack") it is a 3 as there are six series of racks, from BD to BD6.

I stand corrected and I thank you sir...

2 cent refund issued. PM inbound.

The only reference book I have that call out a designation is the Verlinden Lock-On book. It's wrong.

I have updated my website with the correction and revised my instruction sheet:

BD3_instructions1.jpg

I've still got a bunch of instruction sheets already printed though so I'll use them up before reprinting the correct version :monkeydance:

I will contact those who I have sent parts to for reviews, hopefully before they are published...

MiG-23 pylons are coming along.

I have finished the BD3-60-23 pylons. These differ slightly from the MiG-21 pylons having even more bolted on details.

Note the difference in size and location when compared to the kit pylons:

BD3-60-23_1.jpg

Using the kit pylons with the kit Aphid launchers and missiles puts the missile fins dangerously close to touching the table top. These new pylons should help remedy this.

The mating surfaces of the fuselage mounted pylons are contoured to fit the fuselage as the real pylons actually fit into pockets on the plane.

The wing mounted pylons include a molded on disc on the rear mounting pin that is present on the real plane.

The kit pylons are all the same, don't conform to the fuselage and have undersized pins for mounting on the wing roots.

BD3-60-23_2.jpg

I had hoped to have some progress pictures of the larger wing root mounted APU-23 pylons but have been too busy lately to make progress. I'm hoping to have something to show soon.

I'm finally making some progress on the APU-23 pylon.

APU-23_1.jpg

Like the Su-27 pylons I cut the pockets for details in a thicker piece of plastic then sandwiched it between two thinner pieces to create the rails.

APU-23_2.jpg

More soon...

Great job Chris! The launch rails look terrific!

May I ask you, those large round rivets... Did you simulate them with the use of insulin syringe needle the way I do?

Cheers and happy modeling!

Alexander.

Thanks Alexander :)

I do use some medical hypodermic needles but in this case I used a 'blunt dispensing needle' used for applying adhesives and such.
