decaling over gloos paint

Recommended Posts

It depends how glossy the paint itself is. It also depends how prone the decals are to silvering. Your best bet would be to spray some scrap plastic with the grey, let it cure, then apply some spare decals off the sheet you'll be using to see how well they react.

You SHOULD be fine, but better safe than sorry.

If you want it to be perfect, use a super fine grit sandpaper (2500, 3000). You can do a real quick sanding using water. Nothing fancy. Clean it off and apply the Future.

What most peaple don't know is that in a lot of cases, you can actually remove decals place on a good layer of Future if:

>you let the original paint dry for a couple of days before applying Future

>dont Future over top of the decals yet

>let the decals dry for a couple of days

If the ever do look like crap be cause of the silvering, you can pick the decal off with an art knife by craking the Future coat. You can also use regular masking tape to yank most of the decal off as well.

Applying more Future fixes the damage.

My personal preference as you can probably tell, is Future, Future, Future. Better safe then sorry as the expression goes....
