Chevy Camaro Concept

G'day all,

Here's another one done for the missus. If GM pull their fingers out and release these ad RHD then she'll be first in que for this in 1/1!

AMT kit build from the box. Lowered a bit, exterior is Tamiya 'Candi Lime Green' and Matt Black from the rattle can.

Cheers all,

I just realised how rubbish the pictures look! I'd better have another go in daylight...

Ross, I agree. A 100% original '01 Monaro in HotHouse green would be the go, but they've been done to death! seems like every second car is a Munro up here! And the dollars people are STILL asking for them! Insane!

Thanks Holmes, I get what you mean, the way the rear of the cabin tapers over the big square wheel arches. They're almost the same car, but each with it's own nationalities 'take' on the design. The Chev is bold and brash, where as the Aston is elegant and understated. Better take one of each for the garage....!

, Hi Denzil,

Mmmmmmmm! Now that Munro would be nice aye? You think the dollars people are asking for 2001 Monaros is obscene. Have a gekko at ebay or car point or the trading post and see what people are asking for HK, HT, HG or even good original HQ 2 door Monaros and for their age some are really obscene prices. I know they are one of Australia's iconic cars and one in mint original condition might be worth what the owner is asking, but I doubt that a lot of them would be. 30 years ago I almost bought a late 1974 2 door HQ Monaro LS with the little 253 V8, 4 on the floor, aircon, in excellent condition but the only downside was standard steer with wide wheels; hard to park. The yard only wanted about (from memory) $3,500 for it and it only had about 55,000 km on the clock. Should have just bought it and fitted power steer. I'd probably still have it today. It would look good towing my 1974 Viscount around when I get it restored.

,

Ross.

, Hi again Denzil,

Why not buy Mrs. DDC one or other of these two. Much rarer and far more cool and desirable than a Camaro. The first is an original 1969 HK Bathurst Monaro GTS. I know that by race time in 1969 HRT were running HTs but there were still a few privateers running the HKs. If this one is genuine (and I have no reason to doubt it is) it would be worth every last cent of what's being asked for it. This is one of only 500 made for homologation. Let's see if this works. These cars are on car point.

This one is even more rare, only 222 of these were built. Not sure if this one is a Holden SS or a Chev Monaro. Yes in the next model, the HQ there was an SS tag, it was an up spec sports version of the basic Belmont.

Actually I do know what this one is. It's one of only 222 1971 HG Holden Monaro GTSs produced as Chev SSs and exported to South Africa.

,

ooooo, very nice! I just couldn't justify so much cash for ,essentially, so little car (Compared to what else 300 grand can buy).

I've got a mate chasing an HT monaro, so i know all about how scary their prices are getting, even for those in need of SERIOUS TLC, Just be patient, their 'value' has got to start coming back down soon. Hopefully!

It's hard not to cringe when you think about missed oppertunities, but at least there are still some decent cars from that era that haven't been caught up in the 'Aussie Muscle Frenzy'. Ya just got to think outside the square!

Lets see some progress on the van!

:yahoo:, You want to see some progress on the van? Well, here's where it's up to as of this moment. Haven't done anything material as yet, hopefully sometime after Tuesday when I get the cast off the leg. I haven't been able to do anything physical on it as yet but I have been looking at caravan sites and have joined a good Aussie forum on classic caravans (1970s models). I have also started looking at caravan building and interior materials. Found out from one of the forum members how to panel beat aluminium siding, you have to be much more gentle and patient than with a car, but it can be donw, with the appropriate specialist tools; a bag of sand and a rubber mallet. I'll post some pics of how it looks at the moment. For the last few years she has been used as a store room so there's still a lot of junk in there and a lot of water damage from a leaky roof and/or window seals. I won't say she's the ritz, but I lived in her for 2 1/2 years when I was working in Sydney. First one of the hail damage on the LHS. For some reason the RHS got away scot free.

Next some of the interior. This one shows where I did a bit of exploration removing the chipboard behind the front LHS wraparound window. Chip board, or as one of the caravan forum members calss it cheap board. Horrible stuff. Loves water.

One of the water damaged cheap board on the front head box

The oh so 70s standard light fittings, there are 2 of these and parts for them are now hard to get.

Where the fridge and aircon unit will go.

IMG_4501.jpg

More water damage can be seen in this shot. BTW that box covered with a bedsheet sitting on the makeshift bed is full of models, as are several more boxes in the 'storeroom on wheels'.

This one is looking forward from the kitchen area towards the door and dinette area.

IMG_4505.jpg

Some of a previous owner's handiwork. It's said that she was like the woman that Jesus met at the well. A woman of Sumarea, and from what the previous owner to me told me, also some volume. I don't care what she looked like, I just wish she hadn't shortened the table.

IMG_4499.jpg

This is the only seat box remaining. She also ripped the other one on the other side of the table ouot completely along with the double bed that came standard in the van.

Cheers,

Ross.

Nice Ross, looks like you'll have your hands full there for a while.

Just make sure you put an observation deck on the roof You'll have the best seats in the house for the Festival of Flight!

:), Hi Denzil,

You mean something like this? The first one in the thread. But if you want, read all the thread, you might see something familiar there.

http://ditzygypsy.proboards.com/index.cgi?...&thread=128

Tell me if you see something familiar there.

Hahaha, good one ross, that was a good laugh "suitable for a Lord" Hahahaha!

And i do still reckon this year's FoF was lacking somewhat! Next year (fingers crossed!) This weekend is a flyin at the Oakey Army Aviation Museum. Hopefully the camera's new memory card will hold out....

Huey Gunner, I didn't realise only the V6 had been launched so far. Very unusual, i would have imagined GM would have began with a 'Hero' V8 and then progressed to the V6. I'm still annoyed they're not releasing them here

;), Hi Huey Gunner,

I also didn't realize that at the moment only V6s were available even in the US. Just wondering, what size and power output is the V6 in the US Camaro.

Hi Denzil,

I thought you'd get a bit of a chuckle out of that. I certainly did. Recognize anything familiar in amongst those? Like right at the end of the thread? I tried to post just the post on the two story van but the program didn't seem to want to let me, then again I'm not the most computer literate bloke around either.

,

Ross.

When they release the V-8 version I'll start looking seriously at them.

The V-8 version is out in the U.S. At least I've sure seen a bunch of them on the road and in the dealerships here in the Mid-West.

The V-6 is pretty respectable in HP, definitely no slouch at being a 3.6L with 304 HP!

Maybe Paul is meaning the Z/28?

I've seen people asking about a Z/28 version on several car forums and don't quite understand the interest when there's already the SS models which historically are a next step up from the Z/28. If a Z/28 version had been released first and THEN the SS came later, it would make sense... but I don't quite see the logic in the other way around now. Of course, GM has done stranger things before...

Dodge released the Challenger SRT8 before the Challenger R/T with the SRT8 being the more powerful model ...

It gives them another price point to attract buyers ...

Maybe someone wants sporty looks and a V8 yet can't afford the SS ...

Yeah, but with the way GM does things, it better have some substance to back it up price-wise... because by the time it's all said and done, they'll probably be nearly the same price as the SS's... and that is one of the things that really hurt them with the F-bodies at the end of their life in 2002. Everything about the cars was getting way old and dated, but yet they'd pushed the MSRP of the V-8 cars above the 30K mark (which they just weren't worth in the first place) and that probably did more than anything towards killing the line in the consumers eyes... and I for one am not convinced that these new ones are worth what GM thinks they are either.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great GM finally got off their duff and did the right thing as these cars were sorely lacking and needed the updating, but it was needed way before 2002 and here we are in 2009! And speaking of the Chargers/Challengers... we may be seeing Chryslers complete epitaph by the end of next year. Granted they were doing some good stuff starting with the 300, but they were still letting their quality go as I've talked to several Crossfire owners who have not been happy with the problems they've had with those cars in the first several thousand miles of ownership and those cars are not that old. I've also had a 2006 Sebring and a 2008 Charger that have both been complete junk! GM thankfully was trying to address its quality long before that, so hopefully they may still survive by the skin of their teeth before it's said and done, but I think Chryslers going to be a goner. My company is even dumping them for Fords this next year. Why Fiat is not using the DCX dealer network to bring Fiats to the U.S. is beyond me as those cars would probably sell in the current economic climate.
