StokeyPete
Good afternoon all, As per the thread title, I'm building Accurate Armour's 1/35th Lynx. An awesome undertaking in itself as I've never done a full resin kit before. So far so good, the interior is nearly finished and I'm looking to seal up the fuselage at some point in the coming days. I wanted to ask opinion on a scene I'd like to model. I have 8 figures, also from Accurate Armour showing personell in various relaxed poses, one of which includes an infantryman with a camera. My plan is to have the rest of the guys stood/sat by the aircraft in a sort of team photo type situation. Then include a small photo taken by me from the point of view of the cameraman figure to include on the base. Sound interesting or stoopid? also any tips on painting figures would be massively helpful as its something I've never done before. I'll post a shot or two of the figures and get some inspiration from the masses if thats alright.

StokeyPete
Ok here goes. Pics taken with rubbish little point and shoot. I'm no David Bailey here, hopefully they will convey where I'm up to at the moment and what I wish to acheive in the end. Figure positioning is open to suggestions. I was just playing around with ideas to start with. Thoughts and ideas welcome as always.
oortiz10
I like the idea! -O
ST0RM
I like the idea! Yes. I think it says alot.
T-bone
The cockpit is beautifully painted! I imagine you are going to add some weathering to the floor and rails of the seats? The fire extinguishers are outstanding! I think the concept is great and should look really sharp once done. I like the position of most of the men but the man the farthest to the left with his arms and legs crossed should be right in the center of the groups of three and in the back row. To my eye he is the most striking of the figures and his present position makes him appear disinterested in being in the photo instead of anchoring the group. Then I would consider switching figures 4 and 5 in the back row because of the rightward leaning of figure 4 (at present). That would give you the cool guy in the center and the hard *** (number 5 (present) in the center and would mix up the beret wearers and the helmeted figures in the back row. Just some food for thought! That is going to be such a great dio! I look forward to seeing more!
Camo
Love the idea of this diorama, gonna be keeping an eye on this one.
StokeyPete
I'll have a tweak with the positioning and post some more shots. I had wanted to get a guy in the helicopter but don't think it would work. Glad you all like the idea though.
HOLMES
Love the idea and looking at the figures I think they are in a position that makes it look so realistic...All caught off guard and not in a " uniformed" line... The figure sat down so casually ..PERFECT..I would have them positioned as they are shown here..BRILLIANT ! OOooer I can't wait for more.... Gonna BE GOOD !!! StokeyPete
A few minor changes to the lineup, could have a more natural feel to it. the second pic has a chap accompanying the photographer. In my mind I have him perhaps taking the mickey out of the guys in the pic to get em laughing. All of this is a little premature. Better get the heli' built before i even contemplate paintin' figures. All the interior is just about done so I'll be sewing up the fuselage at some stage over the weekend. Get to work on the TOW missile assemblies. I must say that for an all resin kit, and considering it's cost. I am rather enjoying this one, nowhere near as bad as I was fearing when I opened the box. phantom
Excellent, but the guy with his arms crossed looks like a puffter,.
StokeyPete
I'll grant you that one. The photo doesn't do him justice. Perhaps the blu tac holding his head on makes him look like he's wearing a scarf. Glue and paint will make em look a little less camp LOL.
norbert
yes, this focus on figures and the helicopter on the back is great. Then, playing with the figures attitude is not easy. Build a story where everyone has his place. some of them seems more to have a rest as to prepare themselves for a picture. In any case, as it is, it's very promising Norbert
HOLMES
Excellent, but the guy with his arms crossed looks like a puffter,. ...And I was thinking "what a lot of codswallop" he thought as he stood in defiance with his arms crossed to say I 'm a Soldier and none of this stuff if you will... StokeyPete
Just a thought, the two guys in berets could be the aircrew to the chopper, when I bought them the packaging describes them as NCO or officer. Perhaps they're the pilot/observer posing with ground pounders. So many ideas! Where do I go with this? Should I introduce a vehicle for the resting fellas to be interacting with? This diorama lark is hard LOL. Trying to tell a story

This diorama lark is hard LOL. Trying to tell a story I think its a splendid idea introducing a vehicle...the resting guys can "loll" on top of it but always ready to " jump to it " should the need arise...and it would show that the unit was ONE...Supporting one another .... ready to take off at any given time.. quickly and easily.... T-bone
Thanks for letting us brain storm about you dio! I like the modified positioning and the guy beside the photographer but it makes one wonder why isn't he in the photograph unless he is not going and then why isn't he taking the picture of all the guys going on the mission? Overall, I just don't know about the even number of details. Maybe one of the backpacks near the photographers needs to have the first sitting guy resting his right side against it or him sitting on it like in the first revised picture. With that said, the addition of another element, such as a small vehicle (jeep) for some of the men to be positioned around (or alone) would provide an odd number of elements and allow for a triangle arrangement for the elements. This would afford more balance to the composition but make the scene much larger. Maybe if the jeep was just visible in the lower right corner of the first revision photograph? This would give some balance and create a triangular arrangement of elements... Just some thoughts...
StokeyPete
Thanks Tim. This is just the kind of input I'd been hoping for. Having always built jets this is totally alien. I'm gonna add a land rover to the scene at some point. Like you suggest, it offers a more balanced look. I do have a few other bits that can be added, soft drink cans, bottles of water and more weapons. All in good time. I gotta do these figures justice with the paint first..................... back with more pics as the heli comes together.
blackhawk7
I'm thinking maybe you shouldn't have the jeep as part of the 'photo' as such, but rather as parked off to the side like it's dropped the off the guys, or come to pick them up after the mission. Basically what I'm thinking is have the LR off to the right or something like it's ready to have everyone pile into after the photo is taken... just some more food. Progess is looking good so far, can't wait to see it once it's done! Tom Edited October 13, 2009 by blackhawk7
StokeyPete
My thoughts exactly, I'm gonna have the two sat down fellas with the LR.
StokeyPete
Well, it's been some time since I had anything to report and Im terrible for remembering to take piccies, but TA-DAH! Heres the latest from the workbench. Am almost complete on it, a few aerials, doors and the TOW rockets to attach and will be ready to mount and get to work on some figures. Let me know what you think
oortiz10
Very sharp. Well done!

StokeyPete
I'm really pleased with the result, my first and probably only resin kit due to expense. Glad I was able to do it some justice. I just gotta learn how to paint a good figure
Anthony in NZ
Wow, just fantastic!!! Between you and Norbert we are getting spoilt with build up of this kit. Great job, you nailed the look and feel of the chopper. Cheers Anthony
