moeggo
Welcome to Defence of the Reich 2 GB!! The last one was one of the largest and most successful GB's ever at ARC with over 80 completed entries. We're anticipating another great GB and looking forward to welcoming back vets of the last one as well as some "fresh meat" this time around. Mike, Pete and myself are working on collecting items for the prize fund. We've already got a few items, but donations are always appreciated, from a business or individuals. Now onto the serious stuff.... The RULES! The Defence of the Reich 2 Group Build starts October 1st, 2009 and concludes on March 31st, 2010. The aircraft modeled must have taken part in air operations in and around Germany from January 1943 to VE Day in 1945. For the purposes of this group build, these areas include Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, France, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, and Holland. The Hungarian Puma Squadron's aircraft have also been deemed eligible since they intercepted Allied bomber formations headed for Germany over flying Hungarian airspace. Please note that although the group build title is "Defence of the Reich", the build is not restricted to fighters intercepting Allied bomber formations. Aircraft engaged in other activities, bombers, transports, etc. are eligible to be entered as well, assuming they operated in the aforementioned areas. A list of eligible aircraft is located at the bottom of this page. Aircraft entered should have been assigned to an operational unit. For the purposes of this group build an operational unit would be defined as a unit that is engaged in combat or combat support missions, be it fighter, bomber, recon, etc. A unit such as an "Erprobungskommando" dedicated to testing and development is not considered an operational unit for the purpose of this group build. Experimental, training, and Luft '46 aircraft are not eligible. We understand that much debate occurs on this subject. If you would like to enter an aircraft that isn't on our list and have some type of evidence that backs up your claim, we'll be happy to consider it. The goal is inclusion, rather than exclusion. We hope that everyone will appreciate the fact that these decisions are difficult and that while you may not agree with the moderating staff's decisions, you'll respect them. Allied subjects would be allowed only in a diorama form (eg. Dogfight, Fighter attacking Bomber formation.), but can’t be the main focus of the diorama. Any make and scale of kit are permitted, sorry no scratch builds. Scratch Build detailing is permitted. Use of aftermarket extras (resin/decals etc) are permitted and encouraged. Only kits that have not been started or part built (25%) after the start date can be entered. I leave this to your discretion but the spirit of the group build is building within the time frame. All completed builds are found in the gallery section of this fourm. If you have problems hosting pictures, contact one of the mods and we will help you out. Any other questions relating to the Defence of the Reich 2 group build please forward to any of the moderators. Note: The Airfield is for completed entries and will be locked by the mods. Once a build is complete one of the mods will move it to the Airfield, this allows people to view completed entries without having to wade through all the responses and comments. Feel free to create a separate thread when you're done with your build for people to comment on. The Mikester
How about the Bf 108? No problem, assuming it meets the criteria for time frame and location.
Hal Marshman Sr
Hal, March 31st is the end date. Thanks Mikester, guess I won't be able to participate. Have a killer 109K in mind. Thx, Hal Sr
Mark M.
But wasn't the bf108 a civilian trainer? Never saw action? Basically an early model of a Cessna or a Piper
moeggo
But wasn't the bf108 a civilian trainer? Never saw action? Basically an early model of a Cessna or a Piper if it flew during the time periods of the GB and was in located areas, we will let it side... The main reason is, that the GB is not just about modeling just fighters that went up to shoot down bombers, it also includes the Transport, Recon, Bombing missions as that played a part in the in final stages... Touvdal
The Bf 108 flew as commucation aircraft with many jagd and kampgeschwader and also kurirestaffels, so absolutely able to enter GB in a paint scheme supporting that, in my oppinion. cheers Jes
Tim H
The decals that come in the Eduard kit are pre GB scope. When I get a few minutes, I will research the units included to see if they were in any of the areas covered by the group build.
smutz
Hi guys, would an Me410 B1 of KG2 based in France 1944 be eligible? I believe they ran the fast intruder missions cross channel to southern England. thanks Andy.
Pete Wenman
Hi guys, would an Me410 B1 of KG2 based in France 1944 be eligible? I believe they ran the fast intruder missions cross channel to southern England. I think this would count as Defending the Reich, just in a more proactive kind of way. You're good to go Pete
Romulus
I would join the GB with a Romanian Ju-87D Stuka, I started a week ago. Problem is that the interiour is almost finished, but fuselage halves are not yet glued.
Romulus
So I assume I cannot join?
The Mikester
Unfortunately a Romanian Stuka would not be eligible for this GB.
