My entry USS Enterprise CVN 65

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow modelers  I thought I’d introduced myself first, my name is Joe Szczygiel, the last name is pronounced “seagullâ€. Anyhow I thought I’d like to join you guys in this build. I received this kit from a great friend as a gift which he traded off a few kits and was so kindly enough to give me. Thanks Arnie! I also like to thank Sean Holliday for some extra decals, jets and 2 great books.

For my entry I’m building the Tamiya 1/350th USS Enterprise. I started it last weekend researching it and reading a few books. The Enterprise will be built during the late 80’s. I started of detailing the island structure using stretched sprue and bits of evergreen plastic. The decks rails are Gold Medal Models, another gift from Arnie which he had some extras laying around.

Most of the reference I’m going by came from the Detail & Scale USS Enterprise vol. 39. Most of the book covers her in the late 80’s so I feel safe. I’m sure I’ll miss many things due to it’s size and my overall lack of knowledge. This will be my second ship built. My first was Dragons 1/350th Ticonderoga . I built that ship out of box and scratch built the railings using Evergreen rod and stretched sprue.

Here is were I’m at this moment of time.

Hull seam filled with stretched sprue.

Small progress but moving along. I used some of the extra ships rails to make up the radar masts. I would of like to used the Gold Medal PE but the cost was a factor. I think it looks much better than the kit radar pieces.

That's looking real good. If you need any advice, by the looks of it you don't, give me a shout. I just finished building that kit. Brian

Awesome work. I had a chance to buy one of these last year. Took one look at all the bits, the planes and sheer scale of model and thought no way. Looking at how much extra work you have put in to actually build it, I sure am glad I made that decision. Based on your work to date; I am certain you will have an impressive model when it is done :worship:

Wow, the scratch build master is at it again and again at what a project Tamiya Enterprice. Yeah baby!! I'm not a boat guy but if I had the choice I would build the big E. The island is looking nice my friend. Can I ask you for one favor... take a lot of photos :) I'm going to save everything your doing here. A Big thanks for a Big E online build.

Curt sorry but no up-dates at the moment, I've been busy with a ton of reviews and busy with our club projects. And now that the holidays are here it won't been until after Christmas that I'll get back to work on her. It's killing me though as I look at the giant box everday :D

Happy Modeling & Happy Thanksgiving!

Very nice!! ive got this kit in my collection, and I hope to get it built before I die, haha. The PE looks great, and it add's so much to this kit.

Do you plan on building a hanger deck for it?
