Flankerman
Another WIF model for the IPMS UK 2009 Nats - Scalemodelworld. I made it a few years ago - combining the Revell 1:144 scale A-90 Ekranoplan with some Liveries Unlimited decals. I changed the Kuznetsov turboprop cruise engine for a more modern, fuel-efficient turbofan....... Now, enough of this tomfoolery - I must get back to some REAL modelling..... TimEarls
Ken, that is VERY cool. I could see Richard Branson doing something like that. Tim Edited October 24, 2009 by TimEarls

AV O
This is A really good idea. Just teasing : Do you think a jet engine would be so fuel efficient at the very low altitude the Ekranoplan was flying ?? Anyway, your conversion gives a "different" look to "Orlyonok". To those interested in this kind of flying objects, I recommend this video and the ones related (on the same "You tube" page). or with a Russian commentary to make it look more realistic : Don't miss those ones too : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjTu0jhqqPE Edited October 24, 2009 by AV O
GreyGhost
Very nicely done and imaginative ... I really like how you did the vapor on the water ... Nice Effect ! :) Gregg

tornado64
This is A really good idea. Just teasing : Do you think a jet engine would be so fuel efficient at the very low altitude the Ekranoplan was flying ?? it was proven in research because of the ground effect engines were more fuel efficient than aircraft !! the original plan for them was to use them as long distance landing craft if an invasion circumstance had arrisen during the cold war !! also designed as was to fly under radar for an invasion and as hovercraft could get a certain distance inland providing it was flat enough and there were no obstacles !!
