Big Kev
Looking pretty good, Kev! Thanks Dave. I'm feeling pretty unmotivated with this one, and have had almost no time for modelling of late, but I've finally got a bit more done. I mixed some Tamiya Clear Blue with some white to get a colour I thought was close to right for the Presidential trim colour, but after testing it and mixing a second batch, it came out as baby blue: It's close enough for me, especially given my fast evaporating enthusiasm for this build! I've still got to touch up a bit of overspray here and there too. I've also painted the cockpit, though I've yet to decide whether I'm finished or not: The eagle-eyed will note that this is upside-down. I painted the interior with Gunze RLM02, the seat back with Tamiya Buff, and the seat cushions with Tamiya Red Brown (XF-64). I've given the whole thing a dark wash, but the camera flash has killed it. It should probably have some more detail painting, but once the pilot's in and the canopy is on it'll pass muster as is I reckon. More soon! Kev
Big Kev
Well, this build came close to hitting the wall this past few days - literally! I'm not sure how other builders have got on with it, but I couldn't find any way to positively and accurately locate the upper guns. I finally CA'ed them into what I thought was the correct position, only to find out that the lower sections of the upper wings didn't fit over them. I had to pry them off and shift them, and the whole area now looks horrible. Here's an overview shot: Still have to clean up the seams on the upper engine pods. Here's a close-up of the mess I was referring to: I'm just going to ignore the large gap at each wing root (the other side isn't quite so bad), as I'm already over this build and just want to finish it. I'm sure it'll look OK in the end, but man, what a pig of a kit! Kev
MarkW
You, sir, are correct. Pig indeed.
Big Kev
OK, not much modelling time of late, but I did manage to inch forward on this one. I didn't like the blue I originally mixed for the engine pods, and noticing that I'd failed to apply it in the correct pattern anyway, I decided to mix up a darker brew. Here's the result: The blue is stronger now, and much closer to the blue used on the decal sheet. Any tips for painting the various thruster nozzles? I normally build aircraft, but not jets, so the whole jet nozzle business is a bit alien to me. I was hoping to finish this one by the end of the month, but I'm now shooting for the end of the week. MarkW
Any generic metallic exhaust color would do, as long as it tends to a darker shade. Any "weathering or streaking should be lengthwise instead of rings like real exhausts.
Big Kev
OK, a little bit more progress, but not much time for modelling of late. I've got the pilot painted up, decalled and installed. Looks OK I think: Once I get the canopy on and the lower guns fitted, I think I can start to look at those decals... Kev
Aigore
Looking great! But look out for that canopy, it does have fit issues! Cheers!

Big Kev
Looking great! But look out for that canopy, it does have fit issues! Cheers! Yeah, no kidding! I got it on yesterday, and it looks dreadful. I really couldn't be bothered making it look any better though, so it'll have to do. More photos soon. Kev
Big Kev
OK, this stupid piece of injection-moulded excrement is finally done - and good riddance too! Photos: I was going to dirty it up a lot more, but I really just want it off my workbench. Besides, it's a Presidential escort, so it probably should be neat 'n' tidy anyway. Thanks for following along! Kev

Army_Air_Force
Hi, recently joined the forum and came across this thread, so I thought I'd share my Starfury, built around eight years ago. The scheme is based on a the following R/C P-47 that I was flying at the time. I didn't like the display base in the kit so made a clear acrylic version. and my Starfury... Army_Air_Force
Thanks. I quite like the light blue scheme. I was going to try and scratch build a Fury, then as if by magic, the kit was brought out and saved the day! Edited January 4, 2010 by Army_Air_Force
