Constellation Flaps

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

As those that have read my progress (or lack thereof) on my 1:32 Connie will know - I now have a gap in my references that I need to plug - namely detailed photo's of the flaps and flap area so I can do some artwork for photo etch.

Any help/pointers/photos/tech illustrations *really* appreciated!

Okay, I checked my material at home, and copied my original response from the other site so I can bump this message.

The guides are spaced 69.3" on center, and the flap chord is a constant 51"

Here's a test rig:

Here are the flaps partially extended. They were in five sections, actuated by jackscrews.

Here are the flaps fully extended:

Earlier today, a Web search yielded these:

I found an article with a cutaway drawing of a Connie. Note the structure on the starboard wing. Those pieces are the wing structure that support the Fowler flaps. The port wing shows the structure of the flaps (behind the outboard engine) and the top surface of the wing (behind the inboard engine).

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bruce - brilliant stuff!

If you find yourself at Telford next year I owe you a beer, or three

Iain

Iain,

I can't wait to see pictures of the finished product. And good luck with the pilot's license!

Telford is a long way from Phoenix, AZ USA, but I'd sure like to go there some day.

Regards,

Bruce
