Now that Revell's 1/48 B-1B is available again

Recommended Posts

I have a Bone in the model pile just waiting for all the aftermarket goodies. With the resin wheels and bomb bays the thing I can think of most that needs address would be the intakes and a set for the exhaust. I don't know if it anyone would produce these in a resin kit? Great job to the people who are making the aftermarket items for this kit. Might have to pick up another one. Dan

I think Im going to give this one a shot because Im tired of buying new bones just for the intakes. It wont be easy, but Im going to "try" real hard to make a seamless intake. Never did it before, but casting something like that shouldnt be all that hard. Just got to find the materials to do so.

  • 8 months later...

I made two of these original kits. One with the strategic camo scheme, the other with the grey.

First, don't use CA as your glue. I had one Bone hanging and a couple of years after putting it together the entire bottom half broke free and fell.

Second one, I can definitely attest to the gear giving the ghost. Sitting on display on top of my bar fridge, the main gear collapsed under the sheer weight of this monster.

Sad to see the first one smash like that, but since then learned how to fill gaps with sprue and use polystyrene glue instead.

Glad to see some new parts for this mammoth beast!

Rich

Did anyone ever make any cans or any other resing besides wheels for this kit?

Before CE's featherless exhausts there was a somewhat rougher set by Masterpiece Models. AFAIK, the Eduard PE is a set of featherless cans as well. Have never seen AND WOULD LOVE TO GET a set of the original, SAC-era turkey feather exhausts in BOTH 1/72 and 1/48 scale. The engines are not the same size as F-100's and F-110's, nor do the larger scales seem to adapt.

Shull24 makes the TDS blisters for the tail in 1/48

My 2 cents.

I wouldnt mind some after market parts to make it like god (aka SAC) intended.

Lets load her bays with the SRAM and silver bullets and go into Russkii-land like they knew she could.

Im talking SRAM lanuchers and B-61 adapters... external ALCMs and CSRL...

Let the memory live again!

+1 on that.

Speaking of the external stores. Does anyone have any pics of the ALCMs and their associated pylons/adapters ?

For a future project I plan to build one that way...and I have not been able to locate any pics (except for one black and white taken inflight from below; so you cannot see the pylons at all).

I picked up a set of the SAC white metal gear and it's a pretty nice set... packaging is a little so/so and some of the smaller delicate pieces will need a little re-straightening as they get a little distorted by being pushed around in the box by the larger pieces.
