Ro-Gar Hobbies
WOW.....JUST FREAKING INCREDABLE!!!! Man that came out really! No take hand and smack yourself upside the head for even saying it won't win any awards! This thing has first place or best of show written all over it! Congratulations on a beautiful build! Vidar_710
Incredible amount of work and a beautiful display... but he is right folks. At the Nationals level, he'ld get kicked around a bit for some workmanship flaws. But at the local and possible Regional level, this work of art would do well. Beautiful job Pete! janman
Unbelievable work! Can't find the right words, but the detailing is just awesome.
K2Pete
Thanx again guys ... but Tracy, really, you don't hafta AGREE with me!! :D Here's just a few more pix. You might be able to see some of the scrapes and uneven cuts especially on the fwd RCS nozzles. It may do alright at the local shows, only because there aren't too many entries in the Real Space category, but it won't get anything at the bigger shows. And that's just fine ... I enter 'em to try to attract a viewer's interest and maybe trigger a a little inspiration for them to build something too.  Here's the fwd RCS but also note the RTV tile sealant, on the top of the cockpit.      Once again, thanx very much for all your positive comments lads .... believe it or don't, it helped alot when I just wanted to pack this project in. Shawn M
It may just be me, but I dont know how this build wouldn't do well at a "big" show. Im so glad you stuck with it, truely a piece of art in multimedia.
niart17
Youre right Pete, this thing just sucks rocks! I mean you still didn't even put the right brand of toilet paper by the toilet. And half the fuselage and wing is missing it's skin. Comon' how could you miss that?!?! I think you should throw it out...or send it to me so I can dispose of it properly (by putting it on my shelf) Dude! this is crazy good. There may be a few (very few) minor flubs that you know about and one would have to really study it to find. I KNOW it would do well in the regional level and IF you really wanted to go after a national it would just take a very little tweaking to make it a serious contender. It definately is better than most any museum piece I've seen of a shuttle. And I have just the museum you could donate it to. It's the Bill's National Museum of Space History and Things. It's a smaller museum with... well really only one or two people visiting a year, but it is a worthy cause.. :D Bill
crowe-t
Pete, Pack this piece of crap up and send it to me to dispose of. I put all the garbage up on a nice shelf, uh, I mean in a can outside. You've definitely triggered inspiration in me with this one. It's a true work of art! Edited February 5, 2011 by crowe-t

GEH737
A truly exceptional piece of work - genuine craftsmanship. While it's said often, this really is a case of a model deserving a home (Eventually) in a museum. I'd send these pictures to KSC in Florida, and the Smithsonian in DC. Excellent, excellent work... VA-115EFR
That's a beautiful tribute to the Columbia!!! This work is definitely museum worthy. Words cannot express the beauty of your work! Absolutely STUNNING!!!
wh1skea
Saw a 1/72 cutaway shuttle model kit at my local HobbyTown. It made me chuckle. If only they knew what a real shuttle cutaway should look like. Superb work!
GreyGhost
Awesome ... I could easily imagine this being on display at KSC or JSC .... -Gregg
Jay Chladek
I could easily imagine this being on display at KSC or JSC ....-Gregg Or NASM and Udvar Hazy, next to a real shuttle. It would be the perfect compliment since you can't climb that deep into a real shuttle. Edited February 8, 2011 by Jay Chladek
MarkD
Amazing model. This got me thinking on building a diorama. Though it will be of the remains of Columbia or Challenger. Well many built models of the wreck of Titanic in great detail of how the torn ship looks now. Even me. Here is a diagram I sketched of Columbia's bottom based off the reconstruction report diagrams. This is to 1/72 scale. http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs36/f/2008/253...Gojirakaiju.jpg the top of Columbia remains http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs36/f/2008/253...Gojirakaiju.jpg And the sides of the orbiter http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs36/f/2008/253...Gojirakaiju.jpg and http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs37/f/2008/253...Gojirakaiju.jpg

Emvar
Soooooo how did it go? Fine Scale Modeler wanted a pic ...... how did you do for standing? Emil
K2Pete
Hey Emil ... I would've liked to have met you guys at HeritageCon yesterday ... I was in and out, but didn't hear an announcement for the group pic. But in my category, which was "Miscellaneous, Space, Sci-fi" and had about 15 models, my shuttle got a 3rd. But I'm pleased with the positive reaction it got from a lot of fellow modelers. And I was also quite surprised that Fine Scale had a photographer there too. I just love the venue, in a Warplane Museum, and a lot of very nice models too. Pete
