As mentioned earlier in the thread, "Scrappy" is the only A-7D I've seen in real life so I was pleased when I came across the AirDoc decal sheet for ANG including 222. It is a nice scheme. I think a panel wash gives a more 3D effect to the model. I've never had great success with oil paints though and find them messy and smelly. So, I'm really pleased to have come across the Pro Modeller panel wash option. Simply paint it on and when it's dry, wipe it off with some kitchen roll and a little spit. Take as much off as you like to get the desired effect. Put more on to build more dirt. Great stuff. If you don't like it, wash it all off. Easy. It really "wakes up" a build, reveals a lot of hidden detail and adds some of its own. I won the complete line up in the Legacy Hornet GB here on ARC. I`ve used Dark Dirt on six 1/32 builds and have 2/3 of the bottle left, so it is economical as well. Aside from the wash, how much more weathering are you going to do? Aside from the wash, how much more weathering are you going to do?Don Not planning on doing too much more, Don. I may use a little weathering powder here and there but I don't think I'll go as far as the all over drybrushing some of the F14 and F18 'specialists' do. I`ve read that most ANG units kept their birds in a clean finish, i guess they had a lot of pride in their work. My build will be clean as it was a Gunsmoke participant, they were graded on appearance among other important things. A Navy type weathering finish would be way out of place on an A-7 unless it was an A-7E. Don Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Thanks Nubaba and Honza Lots of people do use oils and when you see your work, Honza, I can't argue with the finish oils can help you achieve. Like you though, Nubaba, I have trouble with them and they are messy and smelly! I've found something that isn't perfect but gives a pretty good finish in most circumstances. Maybe not the professional's choice, but it's quick easy to use and great for us "a few minutes to spare late in the evining" type modellers. The only issue I have with the current build is that the wash seems to be exactly the same colour as the darker gray and so it looks good on the light gray, but non-existent on the dark. Need to try to get a darker or lighter wash for the dark gray areas. And good luck with the credit card, Nubaba!
