F4DPhantomII
Thanks Dave I'll check it out.I have Hasegawa F-14A+ kit P23 that appears to have the makings of a F-14B.
Darren Roberts
The new release of the Revell B is decent, but it's still lacking some small items such as the TACAN antenna and the ECM blisters on the leading edge of the intakes. Steel Beach does an update that gives you everything you need, except for reshaping the engine fairings, which should be squared off instead of the rounded shape that is on the Revell kit. Cloggy
Why was there never a F-14C?
VFA-103guy
Why was there never a F-14C? It was supposed to be a proposed variant for the Air Force to replace the F-102, but it never panned out.
Reddog
Why was there never a F-14C? There was an F-14C, it was a prototype and never put into production. from Wikipedia "Projected variant of the initial F-14B (F401-powered) with advanced multimission avionics" If you google "F-14C Tomcat", you will be able to find more info. HTH Reddog :)
Admiral T. Jurisdiction
It was supposed to be a proposed variant for the Air Force to replace the F-102, but it never panned out. Was this the F-14L, or was that something altogether different?
Jonathan_Lotton
Was this the F-14L, or was that something altogether different? Never heard of the F-14L. The F-18L was going to be a land based, lighter weight version of the Hornet built for Iran.
David Hingtgen
Thanks Dave I'll check it out.I have Hasegawa F-14A+ kit P23 that appears to have the makings of a F-14B. That's because an A+ is a B.
fasteagle12
Never heard of the F-14L.The F-18L was going to be a land based, lighter weight version of the Hornet built for Iran. The F-18L was a land based version of the Hornet, much like the original Northrop designed YF-17. When it lost the USAF LWF contract to the F-16, Northrop teamed with McDonnell Douglas, which had Naval fighter experience, to fill the new Navy lightweight fighter role requirement. The idea was for McAir to make the planes for the Navy and Northrop for land force markets (not just limited to Iran). When the Hornet came out, McAir marketed the Naval version to foreign services which caused Northrop to sue their production partner. With no sales of the F-18L, Northrop eventually dropped their lawsuit.
