Arh the good old days of foild wrapped kit kats are long gone. I think also lindt chocolate comes in foil. Unfortunatly due to medical requirments very little chocy in my diet these days :D Julien

Looking at the pile of chocolate bars on my desk, my wife thinks that I am plumbing new depths of hobby madness... :D
Charlie Cheetah
I am picturing many modelers buying up reserves of chocolate right now, oepning the packages carefully and throwing away the contents... lol I remember being able to do that with cigarette foil and the foil wrrappers of some Wrigley's gums when I was young and foolish. Now that Im not so young anymore, the only widely available wrapper that I can think of may be the Caramilk gold colored foil.
T0M4ever
Do Club biscuits still come in foil?
mossieramm
Looks the same, I'll have to eat one to find out. Pity Cadbury doesnt come with this type of packing. David
SonyKen
Guys, Do I need to bring a "CARE" package of Nestles Crunch bar foil sheets with me when I travel to London in a couple of weeks? Cheers! Best Regards, Ken Bailey (SonyKen) Edited December 23, 2009 by SonyKen
UKPonchoMan
When I saw this topic, all i got was "Masking Canopies with chocolate..." which I have to say sounded quite interesting... Hmmm, a form of masking you can LICK off!!!
dahut
Over on britmodeller, there is a devoted cadre of Marmite maskers. So its not as far fetched as you think. Very interesting technique. Two layer wrapping foil, split open to reveal the adhesive backed foil. I can just see me now, hanging around the candy sections of stores looking for just the right type. Modeler
I think this is the best choice: http://www.shopbakersnook.com/3.html?m5:ca...p;i77445:page=6 125 sheet 3" x 4" per US 3,80 Its a lot of canopy masking foil

dahut
Why do they call it Sao Paulo instead of San Paulo? I've always wanted to ask that. They speak Portuguese in Brazil, not Spanish, a holdover from colonial times. 'Sao' is the Portuguese word for "Saint," and 'Sao Paulo' is in reference to Saint Paul, the Apostle, after whom the city of over 11 million residents is named. Voltaire
I have just experimented with the foil glued to the plastic wrapper of Cadbury Roses chocolates. With proper care, it peels off the plastic -albeit not easily- and retains enough tackiness to successfully prevent any bleed-under once applied to the canopy. It did the trick I was after, highlighting and allowing me to follow the barely visible ridges of the frames of a poorly molded canopy. All residue (and there was little of it) was very easily washed away with water and soap.
blunce
I tried this recently with the remnants of some fancy chocolate bar my wife picked up. With a little heat I was able to separate them, and applied it to a scrap canopy I had and was surprised to find it worked beautifully! Thanks for the tip, going to use this method on the next one for sure! Super easy to see where to cut after placement on canopy.
Hawkeye's Hobbies
I would think one could speak with the owner of a confectionery shop to see what catalogs they have as to where to source foils for wrapping candy. Who knows maybe they have a roll and could sell or even give you a small piece to try. make the shop keeper even happier...pick up something for someone special...even if its just you. :(
ThatJeffGuy
Is the Bare Metal Foil product not widely available in the U.K.? I started using it a couple of years back and it works on the same principle as the chocolate bar wrapper. I diverged from the the BMF technique on my current build (Tamiya He-219) and got the EZ-Mask set for it....should have stuck with foil...I used to love EZ-Masks but the Uhu set just does not fit properly (needs trimming and filling with Tamiya tape....never had to do that before)

There's a link above for a site selling something like 200 3x3 squares of the stuff, but without knowing exactly what you're getting, one could be ordering 200 squares of non-usable stuff. Also according to the linked how-to article, BMF has much more tackiness and leaves residue (don't know, because I've never used it)

Also according to the linked how-to article, BMF has much more tackiness and leaves residue (don't know, because I've never used it) The residue it leaves comes off easily with a bit of WD-40 on a Q-tip. Point taken on the candy tasting better ...but a sheet of BMF although expensive will last a long time...I've had the same package for 3 years (keep it in the fridge). Av8fan
I did a "calculate shipping" on this as I am interested in trying this technique. Foiled again 1 Pack only..... I consider the price that came up on the web site to be excessive for 1 pack that can easily fit into a bubble envelope. I emailed them and basically they said "if you put in the right postal code, them that's the price" I contacted the manufacturer of the foil. They gave me the #'s of 5 stores here in Toronto, but none of them will sell to me. So I will call the manufacturer again tomorrow. If they will sell to me direct I will bring up a few packs for any ARC members who are interested.

Not sure what you've got in your area, but I've found useable stuff from the Lindt chocolates and some of the other fancier chocolates here in the States. I think Lindt's are fairly well distributed, give that a shot.
Av8fan
Thanks Blunce, But I am trying not to buy the chocolate lol.. However, I will "just to test the process" get some Lindt bars. Oh the sacrifices I make for modeling. Edited March 1, 2010 by Av8fan
Jinxter13
enough with all the foil uses already.......I'm still stuck trying to find that blasted lead foil that millions talk about, that can be used for making homemade seatbelts for ejection seats.
