AMS Resin make a new seat: Lightning seat their website is here (bottom right to see how to order): AMS Resin Xrtadecal make about 9 sheets for the Trumpeter 1/32 Lightning. You can see them here at the Hannant's website and maybe get them locally (Burnaby Hobbies will order them for you): Xtradecals at Hannants Some problems with the kit if you are a rivet counter, but it looks like a Lightning. dehowie
Personally its no worse than the Airfix kit is in 48th. Great build of it in one of the current mags by i think Geoff Coughlin and it looks superb.
ian lanc
I made the F1 a bit back and altered several parts on the kit, don't forget Trumpeter modelled the kit from an actual lightning which had no engines in it, so the finished model sits up on its legs too high but its nothing to worry about. Heres my Lightning build and completed model [if its helpful !] http://forums.europeanmodeller.com/index.php?showtopic=2262 http://forums.europeanmodeller.com/index.php?showtopic=2392 ian. crobinsonh
Actually I think you will find that the Airfix Lightning (both versions) are very accurate as they where designed from the drawings over at BAE (as I have been informed by much more knowledgeable people than I). I can also vouch (as I live three miles away from a beautifully restored Lightning at Tangemere) that Airfix have captured all the details - many of which Trumpeter missed. I may be wrong but I believe that the Trumpeter Lightning used the plans in the SAM publications / and or Warpaint book - both of which are inaccurate to my knowledge and both of which the Trumpeter lightning fits pretty accurately. Its a real shame that they did not use the Airfix lightning as a test against the plans they where using. As a matter of interest the Echelon 1/32nd Lightning where we know that Frank actually measured the real thing and again had the full size drawings from BAE is a pretty exact match for the Airfix Lightning when scaled up. Having said all that if you are not too nit picky then it will certainly look like a Lightning from a distance. Regards Edited April 5, 2010 by crobinsonh
