NielsDol
Hey Guys, I've been around here for a while now, but I realized I had never, ever posted a building report or something like that here (except for some articles for the ARC Homepage, once in a while), so, here is my first building report! (Yeah!) I am usualy building many kits at the same time, because I hate to be bored, but, since a week or 2 I had a motivation problem. Many kits had fit issues (and the usual Putty / Sanding work had to be done so I was looking for a straight forward, easy build. Since I have build a F-84 from Tamiya before, which I posted on ARC I knew what to expect. With the snowy winter weather over here, I thought it would be nice to do a Norwegian aircraft! so I purchased the last set of Vingtor decals for the Thunderjet at the Aviation Megastore over here in the Netherlands, and I started building! A Small Introduction : The Kit : and the Vingtor decals : Building started with the Cockpit area. I wanted to keep it easy, and so I didn't do any PE work here, even the straps are the Decals provided by Tamiya. A little drybrushing has been done to pick out some details. The cockpit together with the airintake-splitter / nosewheel bay and the exhaust are placed between the fuselage halves, Wings joined together, and all wings were placed onto the fuselage. And now, I will go on with this lovely bird, To be Continued Cheers : cheers: Niels Flevo Aviation Hobby Edited December 22, 2009 by NielsDol
NielsDol
Have I told you guys that I build very quick? No? Well, I do! I started to use Aqua colours instead of emenals this year, and one of the positive things about these aqua's is that they are almost dry when they leave the airbrush. Here is the Thunderjet again, the gunbay cover is put in place temporary, because I want to place it open. Spine and anti glare panel are handpainted with Revell 46 and are masked of. And then it was time for Revell 90 Silver. Like I said before this paint dries very quick. Next are the landing gears and a coat of clear gloss for the decals. To be continued! NielsDol
No Reactions at all  Well, I'll do my own, with another update of this nice little airplane! This monring I've painted the wheel-bays, and added the landing gear + doors. The whole thing was put in a clear gloss coat and now it's waiting for the decals, something for this afternoon! NielsDol
Hey pete, I've got a slow delay here, but, there are so many people who haven't seen this project before, and, only the decalproces has to come! then we're even! So, here are the decalpictures too! So now everybody is up to date again! I wasn't too happy about the decals, They are very thin and don't cover that well. That is certainly to be seen on the tail. where I had to put red over white, normaly no problem at all, but see this : There is also a decaloption to put white over red, to get a bigger white area, but I think that when I had chosen for that option I would end up with a pink area. (and I Do not mind p!nk, as long as she's on my radio or... :D ) For the Next time when we have such a option I will mask and airbrrush it. Also, The color red used, I don't know what it is, but it doesn't look right too me. Maybe Vingtor decals could have solved this by adding a white backing layer to the design, so that the red will cover better then it does now.... So now I'll going to give the plane a panel line wash and I'll have a update ready this evening (Local Time) Cheers Niels Flevo Aviation Hobby
kurnass77
Subject interesting I do not think I've ever seen a Norwegian Thunderjet model ... Good work  Gianni
NielsDol
Things are going really fast now, This afternoon I've added a little Panel-line wash, With some Paul McCartney on the background, and the whole plane was given a final coat of Klear. The situation now looks like this : The final things I have to do are adding various small things, removing the tape from the canopy (and place the canopy open). Also the Anti glare panel and the spine will receive a gull coat. Also the gunbay will be opened and this gun-piece will be added : I have to rework some small things on the Gun, because the camera sees all little mistakes  Depending on the plans of my girlfriend I will do this all this evening or tomorrow morning! (man I love having those days off) Cheers Niels Flevo Aviation Hobby
NielsDol
So Guys, This evening was modeling again! So here it is, my completed F-84G Thunderjet Conclusions : The kit is excellent, but hey, it's Tamiya, what else did ya expect :( The decals have some troubles with this kit, It might be only this one, but some would break very easily.... It was not something I expected from Tamiya Decals. The Vingtor decals, well, If talked about that before, I'm not really happy with those. The colours don't cover that well, and also the red isn't quite right if you ask me. The Tail decals was a bit tricky also but the rest was easy to work with altough, they follow the lines quite easy because they are so thin. For now, I've got a Norwegian F-84 in my collection, and my collection of Scandinavian aircraft is still growing Feel free to leave any comments!
