Mate, as you indicated, many kits lack the crew, but a few brands include them - Airfix comes readily to mind.

To get pilots, 1) ask in The Marketplace/The Spares Box for unused pilots. 2) Also Tamiya (IIRC) have a box of several pilots in mostly non-cockpit poses.

The soft plastic is a different material to styrene and so will not receive enamel or acrylic paine UNLESS it receives a decent undercoat. I use a spray-can of Chaos Black from Citadel Miniatures. Spraying Skull White is another option. Then paint as per normal with acrylic or enamel paint.

The soft plastic is oily and so will not take a standard plastic modelling glue either, but it will take Superglue or an epoxy glue (like Araldite). With a soft plastic figure, clean his behind back to bare plastic and glue him to the (bare-plastic) seat. A pin up his behind and up into his torso, then down into the seat, will assist in the bonding process. Position the pin BEFORE painting commences.

Good luck in the Market Place. George, out............................

Revell just released a set of WWII Luftwaffe figures which includes six sitting pilots for seating in a cockpit. These figures are made from decent "hard" plastic. >>HERE'S<< a look in the box. Most of the figures are from Preiser, but the seated pilots are new.

They will release a set for WWII RAF personnel as well. Not sure about the date, though. This will include 12 pilots for seating in the cockpit. Don't know whether these are related to Preiser as well.

Say, those look good. Are they new moldings by Revell themselves or a reboxing of someone else's? I seem to recall Airfix also had a RAF Personnel set in 1/72.

Most of the figures in the new RoG sets are ex-Preiser, with a couple of new ones thrown in.

The Airfix set is old, and molded in that awful soft PVC that doesn't paint well - I'd personally take the RoG sets over these any day.

HTH,

Andre
