Jeroen Veen
Well, she's done. And I'm pretty pleased with the result as well. She looks like the mean and menacing night prowler I had in mind. But... I couldn't have done it without all your suggestions, good advice and supportive critiques. So thank you all for that, I really did appreciate it and it helped me a lot to do improvements along the way. I hope you enjoy the pics as much as I did building and painting her. All comments welcome as usual, happy modelling! Jeroen
The Mikester
Amazing, a scheme like that is really difficult to pull off and you've nailed it! :)
ForestFan
Looks fantastic, reminds me of the old Heller 72 scale kit that I did in this scheme many many years ago! perhaps you could do an article on how you achieved the finish for us lesser mortals?!! arnobiz
Fantastic job, especially on the weathering, never easy on a black livery.
Britaholic
Fantastic job on the black paint scheme, it could have come out really bland but that looks great. Cheers Den
dsmith
Jeroen, That looks fantasic! Is there any chance you could share how you painted it? I have to paint my wimpy soon, and I am not quite sure how to approach the bottom, as it is all black Cheers, -Doug
Jeroen Veen
Jeroen, That looks fantasic! Is there any chance you could share how you painted it? I have to paint my wimpy soon, and I am not quite sure how to approach the bottom, as it is all black Cheers, -Doug  hi Doug, In short: I selected a couple of panels at random that I painted with a mix of grey and black. The linen and the flaps were all painted with a mix of black and dark earth. The rest was painted with black. At this stage the contrasts are rather strong, but they will become less over the followoing steps. When all this was dry I took pure grey (something like panzer grey or similar) and sprayed at random streaks over the wings and fuselage. This step can be best seen around the exhausts. I then added the decals and coated the whole thing with Tamiya Gloss varnish. When that was fully dry I took a light grey, thinned it down to tinted white spirits and used it as a wash for the panellines and higher details. After this was dry it lookd to strong, so I knocked it back by spraying a very thinned down pure black over the lighter grey wash. Although this step wasn't what I had planned it worked very well, because it added even more variety to the black. It took me 6 passes with the black for ti to start showing, so to give you an idea how thinned down it was. I then added the browns on the top of the wings were the walkway is and behind the exhausts. I have a patchy painting style, but it works well I think. I work with very diluted paints, alomst layers of transparancy, because that gives me great control over how visible it will become. After this step I mattcoated the whole plane and did the chipping on the wingroots. Another Matt coat finished this off. In all honesty: it's just a matter of fiddling around until it looks right. The beauty is that you can always knock contrasts back with the thinned black. I hope this helps you somewhat. Happy modelling, Jeroen

John Krukowski
Good looking model. I know we're supposed to focus on the paint but what really jumps out at me is your treatment of the wheels and tires...very nice! John
