Flyingfortress
I've noticed on many .50 cal MG on mainly armor, there are 3 metal(?) rods that run the length of the barrel. Can someone tell me what those are for? TIA!
Pickles
That is the blank adapter.
11bee
Don't recall ever seeing this on the .50 except when the blank adapter is installed. Is that what you were thinking of? In combat use, this would not be present. Regards, John
Pickles
If they extend from the barrel end (with a big plug) to the collar (the cooling jacket), then it's a blank adapter. There is also only one model kit that this is found in (Aca 1/35 M113 series).

Helo_Dud
Yep that's pretty much it...only used during training in field firing blank rounds. Most often the weapon is tied into a MILES system along with the vehicle. MILES system Happy Modeling, Joe Arnie, if I recall right you can also find the blank adapter in the Trumpeter M1A1 tank?? Pickles
I'll have to check my kits now that you mentioned it. Enquiring minds want to know...
frankycee
... When firing blanks, a large blank-firing adapter (BFA) must be used to keep the gas pressure high enough to allow the action to cycle. The adapter is very distinctive, attaching to the muzzle with three rods extending back to the base. The BFA can often be seen on M2s during peacetime operations... The rods are ther to make sure the huge pressure wont rip the BFa and send it flying...
