FlyingSnowmew
Flyingfortress and I decided to start an unofficial group build for those of us who have an Academy 1/35 Ontos sitting in the stash. Anyone is welcome to join in! No real dates so feel free to take your time. I plan on starting mine tonight.

Shawn M
The NVA used it as a RPG target. well that sucks. How'd the armor hold up?
Tank
well that sucks. How'd the armor hold up? From what I read, I think AK-47 rounds but didn't stop anything above that. Ed Gilbert had a small section in his book Tank Battles in Vietnam. I will reread that section to make sure.
FlyingSnowmew
I have some progress done on mine. Kinda bogged down on it and I already seemed to have lost a part. x.x I'll post some pictures later tonight.
Tank
I like the blooper. Some more build links... http://www.network54.com/Forum/47209/threa...%28in+Korean%29 Steve Zaloga build. http://www.network54.com/Forum/47209/threa...on+What%27s+New A possible fix to the track issue. http://www.network54.com/Forum/47209/threa...ntos+suspension
Tank
WOW! Talk about getting a kit wrong! Thank goodness I'm an idiot and when it's all said and done,so long as it looks like an ONTOS I'll be happy. Some good info in there, thanks Ryan! While a good Ontos would have been nice, just happy we have a modern kit.

Tank
Some stuff you can dress up your Ontos with http://cgi.ebay.com/MM-35005-ONTOS-DETAIL-...=item563b03c424 http://cgi.ebay.com/LionMarc-1-35-6X-M40A1...=item5d28d4ffc8 No connect with the seller and those may not be the best prices, used just as a point of reference and photos. I might skip all the barrel assemble and build it with a plywood "blade" as was done when it was airlift to trick the NVA. (pg 27 in Doyle's book and mentioned in Gilbert's Tank Battle of Vietnam book).
Shawn M
oooo neat stuff!
FlyingSnowmew
Slow progress so far. I managed to lose one of the drive sprockets and I'll have to write to Academy to get another one. MRC won't respond. Here is one side of the suspension mostly assembled. I'm tempted to make my own shocks as the ones look way too skinny and weak.
FlyingSnowmew
I'm starting with one of the guns being that seems to be one of the issues with the kit. Guns don't look to bad to me. Not any worse than some of the assemblies in Dragon armor. I plan on building mine sci-fi-ish so I'll be modding things a bit.
FlyingSnowmew
Ooooo,do tell how! A small radar dish and launch rails instead of 106 mm RRs? I have not a clue at the moment. <_< Thinking about a paint scheme similar to this http://fudoushin.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/img_1953.jpg Edited April 30, 2010 by Uncia Uncia
FlyingSnowmew
Dude, seriously, not pink or any shade there of! A nice blue would be cool! I wouldn't use those colors exactly. More of a sandy crimson red.
