The_Animal
I will post up a pic of my new toys when I collect it from Nikon Canada office in Richmond, but my dear mother told me to "pull the trigger" on these two items. Then she wants me to "get my @$$ in gear." sans MB-D10 (I'll have to buy that for myself as well as the EN-EL4a battery and charger. I'm just grateful and indebted to her for helping me get FalconRose Photography on the launchpad). Despite all the lens breathing brou-haha...I'm fine with this lens. I prefer if I need to get in closer to compose a shot, I'm going to use my kinetic zoom. Since the brides will be paying my salary, if I have to, I'll just step in to nail the shot. Will post up a pic of my new toys (in hand) when they're in my paws. Oh...and I'm sure London Drugs will be so happy, I'm no longer drooling all over their demo-model D300s. Thanks, Mom. Never realized how much of an @$$ I'd been until Dad died. I'm gonna make this work no matter what it takes. Edited May 8, 2010 by The_Animal
Kalashnikov-47
So I take it you're still with us Nikon users? :)
The_Animal
So I take it you're still with us Nikon users? :) Damned rights. :P As I said, I can't thank my mother enough. Otherwise I would be hard-pressed to be able to get the gear that I needed to start FalconRose Photography on the right foot. The 2.8 bright telephoto is going to do wonders for my ability to be able to shoot indoors during the ceremony. And the D300s will allow me to rack up the ISO if I need to do so up to at least 3200 without loss of quality. Edited April 24, 2010 by The_Animal

Alvis 3.1
Wedding photography? Yikes! you're a braver man than I....:) Work hard, it's a busy field, but once word of mouth gets around on how good you are, it gets easier. At least, a bit. On the plus end, you aren't doing it in the days of film. *Shudder* Al P.
The_Animal
Isaac, I'm currently working on a website, however it's going to be very basic. A lot of photographers have fancy FLASH websites but I'm going to wait until I'm making some decent money before getting all "splashy Flashy". Right now the only thing I have is a blog. It's at http://www.falconrosephoto.blogspot.com. And I still have to build up my portraiture/wedding portfolio, which is what I'll be concentrating on doing over the next year (as a photographer-second). Don, I probably won't be using the "video" function much...if at all. For me, all it is is a D300...albeit one with 6fps as opposed to 5 fps without the MB-D10. :) I still have to get that grip though, but my wife can get it for me for just under $200.00 direct from Nikon. Try this before you get the grip http://www.cameraarmor.com/product/Nikon-D300,40,4.htm Now, before you commit to trying weddings listen to your old uncle CD. I did over 200 of the suckers back in the 80's. There are ALOT of people out there right now trying to shoot weddings, digital gives people a edge we didn't have back in the stone age. Do you have a 2nd body as a back up now?? plus prime high speed glass??. You'll need them. I toyed with trying it myself when I went digital and decided the market is way to tough compared to when I did it the 1st time. If your still commited the 2nd shooter route is a good idea, get a idea what your getting yourself into. And watch a few eposides of "Bridezillia".... I'm definitely doing the second shooter. I don't want to do a wedding as a first shooter until I feel absolutely comfortable with my pacing. Woah...that's quite an amount of weddings. I want to get a second body, but my D50 is going to have to function as the second body at the moment. Eventually I want to get whatever camera replaces the D700 in FX. Heather and I are moving with the kids to a half/duplex (that will give us more space than we currently have) at $500.00 a month (wayyyyyy below market value rent). This will allow me to save up enough money to get the 2nd body, a 24-70mm f/2.8, a 14-24 f/2.8 as well as a Tokina 11-16. I've currently got a 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 which I'm going to crank up the ISO on the D300s and a 50mm f/1.8D at the moment. So between those two and the addition of the 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII, I should be OK, while I save up enough to buy the other gear. I've been thinking of adding the 35mm f/1.8 G in the next little while (in the next three months) Edited April 25, 2010 by The_Animal
