Pratt & Whitney R985 question

Recommended Posts

Short and sweet. Thank you for looking.

I'm building Robert Hall's 1932 Springfield "Bulldog".

It was powered by a P&W 535HP R985.

1. First I attached the ignition ring on top of the push rods. That was wrong.

2. Next I placed the ring BEHIND the push rods. That looked right.

3. Now I hear the "early series" R985's had NO ignition ring and the wires fed from the rear

up/over/between the rocker boxes down to the spark plugs?

Looks like the #3 set-up on the 1931 Gee Bee Z?

Thanks for your help, Wiggy
