Kinetic 1/48 EA-6B Prowler

Recommended Posts

The starboard wingfold detail shot. EDP 015 decal is clearly silvered.

Even Cartograph can't make up for poor application. But that they are Cartograph is good enough for me!

There is a lot of small mistakes on the build, but that is probably because whoever built it, got just a few days to build it. I wouldn't look to deep into it.

We should know later this week. The Prowler was said to be formally announced at the Shizouka Hobby Show that is next weekend along with the Hawkeye 2000 and 72nd Sufa.

So I'll keep an eye out this week and definately next weekend for hard info

 Yes! It's the wrong scale!

Honestly, at a glance, no. It looks like a pretty nice kit.

The only thing I noticed doing a very brief comparison to the real bird is the doors on the MLG are off which may mean the gear well openings are off. At least that is a detail on the underside not easily seen.

Here's a good photo for comparison: http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA---Navy/...084b5ced8dade18 that matches the second image on the Luckymodel site (http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=KI-K48022)

I am relaying a message from the other side of the DMZ.....from a Devil Dog who has seen the final product

'They're not wrong.

The builder accidentally put the doors on the wrong sides (basically, they're backward on the build).

Also, that is one of the very early test shots and is not indicative of the final product.'

I'd expect that it may be as a result of not having the instructions done yet (my thoughts). It seems that sometimes the Trumpeter test shots we see on IPMS Phillipines are done without a final instruction sheet - if any at all.

This looks like a nice kit.

I've never really been into the Prowler but I had the opportunity to see first hand a partially built test shot of this kit a few weeks ago and I must say that I'm impressed with the effort on this one. I'll be picking one up.

Another good step forward for Kinetic.

Cheers.

Is it me or is the kit missing the inboard wing fences??? I can't really see them....

CNJC-IPMS

Its a build up of the test shot, It'll be in the finished release

Funny how missing one key stroke can change the meaning of an entire sentence!

As I mentioned on the other site it would appear the modeler has the national insignia on the wrong wings too. Still...... overall its a good job and looks like a winner.

Wait.... nobody's found the GIANT-GLARING-ERRORS-THAT-CAN-NEVER-BE-FIXED-AND-WILL-MAKE-THEM-NEVER-BUY-THE-KIT-EVER-EVER-EVER-I-ONLY-WANT-TAMIYA-TO-MAKE-ONE-GO-AWAY-SATAN-MODEL-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeee on these pictures yet? You know, like the Kinetic F-16's nose?

I'm no expert on Prowlers, I think this one looks great, I'll probably get one. That's my ringing endorsement: way to go Kinetic. Keep'em coming.

I'm not sure what you really mean by this post, but the absence of criticism for this new kit, if anything, gives more weight to the earlier criticism of other kits. If people came along and bashed every kit, or every kit by a specific company, there might be reason to question the validity of it. If one did bash every kit from any particular manufacturer, it wouldn't necessarily mean he or she (okay, HE) is wrong. But clearly when a kit can (almost) come out like this and receive, not bashing, but praise, this can lead others to more readily accept the early comments as valid.

Photo of unpainted Kinetic EA-6B from Shizuoka Toy Show.

Looks like it was left parked too long on a street in Los Angeles.

( I'm from L.A., I can say that!)

Final test shots of the molds were delivered Wednesday, the day they headed to Japan for the show. Anything could have happened.

seems to have very minimal panel lines or if not very shallow/?

Check out the large sized file. Its poor lighting and poor camera work by the photographer. Its mostly out of focus.

Pretty impressive - Kinetic has been putting a lot of effort in improving their quality.

Any more images anywhere on any site that's not Anime or Armor heavy?

  • 4 weeks later...

It might be a perspective trick but IMHO the radome seems rather wide and flattened on the top, and its vertical panel line seems located too rearwards. Isn't it?

Also the cockpit area seems rather larger, or the fuselage body too few deep on the belly, than the original.

With different lighting and different finishes on the model and the real jet, those two pictures are hard to compare, even if from close to the same perspective.

That's correct. Far from being a rivet counter I already have a Monogram in the stash and I'd be happy to invest another $50 only into something really worth the expense. Supposedly I am not alone in that.

Some in-box reviews have been already issued on various websites but now a comparison between the kit and some good 1/48 scale drawings would be very useful and appreciated.

Just my 2¢

Luca
