pastafarian
I teach several online history classes and thought about recording videos of short lectures and posting them to youtube, but I heard that deployed military can't get to youtube. Is that correct? If so, it's a bummer. John
Collin
Youtube is blocked from every government computer I have ever used...both CONUS and overseas. ATIS
Waco
Not sure about deployed locations, and it is going to vary from service to service. The Air Force just unblocked MOST of YouTube from home station, but the concern at many deployed locations is bandwidth usage. It will be up to the local commander as advised by his comm experts, and my guess is that it will probably be blocked at most deployed locations.
Spongebob
Blocked on a lot of corporate networks too. It's a bandwidth hog and a cesspool of malware. Spongebob

Jennings
Speaking of YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook... did you hear that the three of them are going to merge? They're going to create the world's largest web-based time wasting site, to be called... wait for it... YouTwitFace :D
phantom
You tube was blocked from our government computers years ago. Then they blocked Facebook. Now, we do not even have INTERNET!!!!!! Can only do transfers on the computer now. I can't even look up the weather or traffic reports from the government site!!!!
pastafarian
Well that's not cool. I'll find something else then. Mean ol' govmnt, not wanting people to goof off on the puter.
Skyraider Maniac
Youtube is available on their personal computers - just not the offical government nets that the DOD use. They do have their own service over there provided by local contractors - some places it sucketh much; others, its not so bad. HTH , Justin
phantom
Annoying part of the loss of internet for us....... Its a jail. 90% of the time I sit on my bum waiting for bad things to happen. When I am on nights I used to check out stuff like ARC and news sites between my rounds. Kept me awake. Now, I find myself nodding off. We had a couple (and I mean a couple) idiots look up ********* and some others watching TV shows, I can see restricting THOSE. But now I can not.......... Look up lawyer requests for the inmates (getting lawyer phone numbers or lawyers they can afford) Look up group homes or shelters for their release Look up drug reactions. (I work the psyc ward, this was VERY helpful in keeping inmates from accidental ODs) Look up ARC to keep me awake between rounds So now I have a big box on my desk which is only useful for transferring inmates between units. I can't even do reports on it as the government will NOT get us printers!!!!!!!!
