frankv74
Hey everyone, I am not sure if their is one already or not. But since their are only a few Shuttle flights left. We should start a Build groupe to honor the shuttle. I am going to start building mine. I know others here have started also . But I would love to see your in progress shots or Posted finish shots here on this post. So let it begin, any shot of the ones that are done or This could also serve as the area where you can put the payload that shuttle have carried. So lets say the next two years to build okay? Have fun! Here is one of the kits i willbe starting very soon. Frank I would like to make this Officail and have everyone get involved. But it would be nice if i got a responce to an email once in while. I have one person who is trying to help me with the email's, and i apreciate his help on the matter. Please if anyone else has any suggestion's let me know. In the mean time i have started a space shuttle already. I have two others that are on hold and would like to use them during the group build. ventura_kelley
Actually a space shuttle group build would be pretty cool. Have it start with the next launch and end when the last one lands.

Jay Chladek
Hmmm, I could go for that action as it seems shuttles are all I ever do these days. Right now I am up to my eyeballs in a 1/72 Monogram stack, doing it as Moonraker (it might be done by Wonderfest next weekend). As for the time constraint, nope. To really do a shuttle, it needs more time then that to really make one accurate (and I've done enough of them to know that). I would say run it until the 30th anniversary of STS-1 Columbia, April of next year. Edited May 9, 2010 by Jay Chladek
K2Pete
Yessirree! A Space Shuttle Group Build! But give us a little more time. I kind of agree with Jay ... April may be a little long, but we'd definitely need more than just a couple months to do a shuttle up right! Here's a Tamiya 1/100 Shuttle I did a couple years ago ( ... just to whet our collective appetites). It was one of my first kits built after rediscovering the hobby! Great idea! Thanx Frank! MillenniumFalsehood
This would be interesting. I've had a shuttle idea I've been tossing around in my head: I want to show it in flight during reentry, with the leading edges and the nose still orange-hot (lit by LEDs), with clouds hiding the brass tube holding it up. If I can get a clear casting kit for the wings and nose, I'm in.
crowe-t
I'm in. I think this is a great idea! I agree with Jay that we need more time for this. In fact I just recently started building a Revell stack which will be STS-131 since I was following this mission on NASA TV. Here are a few WIP pictures of the ET and SRB's. I'm not sure mine will be as nice as the shuttles you guys build but I'll give it a shot. Edited May 10, 2010 by crowe-t
Jay Chladek
As for my own plans, I am going to be doing another 1/72 shuttle stack sometime late this year anyway (schedule depending on my book writing as that has a deadline of early next year). It will be an STS-1 Columbia stack built from the Monogram kit, but possibly using the Revell orbiter since RoG just re-issued the kit. While the plastic is the same as it ever was, the decal sheet is PACKED with stuff! My scanner isn't hooked up, so I am not able to scan the sheet yet. But I will when I get back from Wonderfest. umtutsut
Most excellent idea! I'll chip in with a 1/72 Enterprise during the Approach and Landing Test program. :D Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum & ex-NASA flack)

umtutsut
I would like to see that.Frank I probably won't tackle the tail cone. I'll putty the SSMEs to make the smooth mock engine bells a la ALT flights 4-5. Someone (can't remember) was thinking of producing a vac or resin tail cone for last year's Nats. Don't recall seeing anything further. :( Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum & ex-NASA flack)
X-Plane Fan
Sounds like a great idea. Not sure if I'm ready for something that size, but I've been warming up with some smaller shuttles... Enterprise with scratch built tail cone.. Buran (with appropriate mods)... Full Stack with Endeavour.. Well, ya just gotta have a sense of humor, right? Tony
modeler85
I think this is an excellent idea also. I have three shuttles that i want to build and now everyone has given me the motivation. I think I'll start with a 1/144 shuttle stack. I need to use those CE tile decals anyways before they get to old. Brian Sounds like a great idea. Mike W.
I like that idea! I've never built the Airfix stack and that would be an excellent reason to do one. Mike
Paul Mullins
Hey Tony, How coincidental is this? I just recently found a stash of egg planes and am currently building the shuttle one just for my own amusement. I love your Endeavour stack with the SRB's. Paul :D

crowe-t
How do we make this an 'official' group build? It would be nice to honor the Space Shuttle Program.
Big Kev
I'd consider joining depending on the time line. I have a Revell 1/144 kit I'd like to build, though it's missing its windscreen part. Kev

K2Pete
Can I assume you've gone to the section of this forum devoted to Group Builds? There's a pinned discussion about all the 'hoops' you're gonna hafta go thru ... ( or "guidelines" if you prefer). Hope this helps Pete
