Matt Roberts
How does one go about looking for positions halfway across the country if what you do barely warrants anyone more than 25 miles away taking a look at you? I have applied all over the country but because I am not an enginnering professional (someone with a degree in engineering and a PE licence) just a good technician/designer I have never even had an interview outside of the Columbus Metro area. No one is going to fly one across country or even across the state to interview for a $50k a year job or less

Kalashnikov-47
It's not you, it sounds more like your location. Texas is booming my friend, especially in law enforcement. Many, many businesses have been re-locating here from places up north and California due to lower taxes and costs. Every city in Texas, including where I live, Amarillo, has seen population and business increases. If you're willing to relocate, take a look at Texas. Looking back, the biggest mistake I made was leaving Texas when I retired. I was working at HQ Air Intelligence Agency in San Antonio and posessed a Top Secret clearance with SCI and other access that I won't go into. That clearance alone was worth a fortune. I hate big cities with a passion and was chomping at the bit to get away. Yeah, call me stupid... At the time jobs were plentiful most everywhere so it didn't matter. Even Michigan was fine until about three years ago. Now we're #50 out of 50. Can't say it'll be Texas, but as I said earlier, I gotta go. richter111
I am stuck in this area as my step son cannot be moved too far from his father. I am back in school, and when done, I should be able to set up my own practice. My issue is finding something between now and then. Through careful financial prudence, I am able to take a job between $10 and $11 an hour and support my family. Thankfully I have never believed in racking up a huge debt load. The problem here, most of the jobs are $8 to $9 an hour. And that just won't cut it.

richter111
I talked with the company today, they have to advertise the position, because it is new. I automatically have a board interview from this posting. If I do not get this position, I will be offered the other position, so in the least, I will have a job as a behavioral specialist, at the best, behavioral specialist supervisor. Wish me luck, and those that pray, please do!
