Which Hornet Squadrons use the ATARS package?

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about buying the Wolfpack Designs ATARS conversion set For the Academy 1/72 F/A-18D. What are my marking options? Are there any decals for these planes?

Thanks!

All of the Marine All Weather Fighter Attack squadrons have had or have currently an ATARS as far as I can tell. So that would include:

VMFA (AW)-225

VMFA (AW)-121

VFMA (AW)-533

VMFA (AW)-224

VMFA (AW)-242

And the Moonlighters too before they made inactive

Until now there are no decals for ATARS birds in 1/72, but I have it on good authority that we have reason to hope for some.

Cheers,

-Hoops

@Hoops, et al: Thanks! I didn't know I had so many choices.

Would the ATARS Hornets ever be armed at any point? Or just for self-defense?

@Antonov: Dude, replace your 22 year old video game and step into the 21st Century!

Since the ATARS pallet replaces just the gun, all the rest of the armament options are still available. I don't know how much this happens in real life, though.

  • 1 year later...

for what a type of a mission has the ATARS equiped hornet the laser pod?

as Andre eluded too, ATARS Jets are still fully mission capable and can still 'drop bombs'.

-Possibly this bird could be an illuminator aircraft for other LGB laden aircraft ?
