Correct wheels for the

Recommended Posts

Hey Doug. Are you making them?

I thought I saw a discussion about them earlier.

Trump did the data plates molded into the tire. Way too deep for scale. (I used to work in a Firestone factory, so I have a fairly good idea what they should look like..LOL)

The Trump outer hub details are very good, slightly better than Mono's

Inner detail is better on Mono's, but still not correct.

Here are the measurements.

Actual: 30X8.8

Actual scale: .625X.183

Mono: .627X.172

Trump: .695X.146

Conclusion: the Mono tire needs to be widened a fraction. Throw away the Trump tires.

Or, you can do what I did today. I added a shim between the Mono and a thicker shim between the Trump wheel. Then I cast them.

After I poured a couple of each. I hogged out the hub on the Mono wheel. Cut off the tire on the Trump. Then I sat for an hour slowly fitting them together. What you see is the Mono tire, and the Trump hub pressed together. It was a press fit!! Oh yes, the front wheels from the Mono kit is better than the Trumps as well.

Cheers,

Harold

 Incredible! Is there anything left Trumpy did right withe the Soup-sabre series??? You spend a lot of money and then you have to spend the same or more to correct the chinese mistakes! It seams the OOB build of a trumpy sabre is just good enough to test old firecrackers? So I ll look for an old mono kit for some bucks...

I hate to say it, but you are sayin' it right.

The wheels are odd to me. They did a very nice job on the hubs, but the tires are all wrong. I just doesn't make much sense.

Those look really nice! you make them and I'll buy them

If Doug was going to do these, I wasn't going to bother. His stuff is so far superior than anything I can do..........I'll make a few sets today. Hopefully they will cast OK.

But if DOUG is doing them....uh...if DOUG IS doing them...

Thanks guys. I will be doing at least two sets for the F-100. They are the last ones I need to do to round out the Century Series sets. I just finished the F-106 wheels last week.

Anyway, the F-100 wheeels are on the bench, I just have a lot going on right now trying to finish up the F-4B/N conversion and F-4 wheel sets. What has held them back, is that I don't really like having some of the parts mounted integrally with the hubs, as there should be some space there. Anyway, I'm always working on 50 things at once with no time to do it....... Oh, and Jason, you did send me wheels, so whenever I get them done I will mail you some.

Cheers,

-Doug

In a word: no. Very few people know that "Trumpeter" is actually Cantonese for "crappy research and execution". "Anigrand" has the same meaning in the Hong Kong dialect.

:salute:

:jaw-dropping: haha!!! Well, sorry for the typing errors, my fingers went quicker than my brain can work :yahoo:

Well, I guess I have to buy some goodies too ...for the C and F soup-sabre. And yeah..DOUG!! I know your wheel work, I ve some wheels from you on the table (especially the HB Hornet wheels - they are to big, yours are looking accurate), so I look forward to the wheels...for the sabre and the phantom...hehe...I m sure they'll beat the true details flat tire resin wheels! (The "S" wheels can be used for UK Phantoms too? FG.1 and FGR.2!?? ...according TwoMikes...)

cool! Not knowing about Huns, are the C,D and F wheels the same? If not, I have the D and F wheels to send you.

The A, C, D, & F all used the same sized wheel/tire. I'm not sure but I think the A didn't have the spider on the main wheels. That's the 3-armed bit the Trump thankfully has in PE on their 1/32 kit. I've seen pics of a lot of As without them. Maybe the A didn't have anti-skid brakes???? The hub design for the nose wheels changed a lot. The original design had spokes like the F-101's nose wheels, then they use one with six holes in the hub, then at least two solid hubs. I'd love to pick up a couple of sets of the ones with the holes.
