B-1B (1:72) research and looking for parts

Recommended Posts

Hey yas,

It has been a while since I have asked this so I want to see what some others have heard since then. I spent some time with some family members including my brother-in-law the B-1 pilot. He asked about a "Sniper Pod". I have seen and researched some options for a 1:72 Sniper Pod and have found an option for an aftermarket Sniper Pod. It comes with two pylons, one for an F-15 and another for an F-16. I have been able to find many pictures of the Snipr Pod on a B-1 but the pylon seems to be quite wide. Am I going to need to scratch build one (I really don't want to) or are one of the other two good to use on my B-1 model? I am looking for any input on that.

Secondly, I have been looking for featherless exhausts for years now. Right now I know that Afterburner made them but they are out of business and they are hard to find. I have also heard that there will probably be someone making them again. Has anyone heard anything recently? I also have been throwing around the idea of just taking the 1:72 B-1 that I bought as a practice model and buying another B-1 model in a different scale or manufacturer.

THANKS,

Jetdx

Gents:

Spectre Resins will have the ALE-50 towed decoy fairings and the sniper pod pylon in September or October this fall. As for other B-1 items I'm looking at doing the conventional weapons 10 carry module as well. Haven't decide whether I'll do the featherless nozzles.

Rumor has it that Aires will be making the nozzles. I believe in 1/48 and hopefully 1/72 as well. BTW, it was Cutting Edge, not Afterburner that did the nozzles in 1/48 and just sold mine....before Aires releases theirs and the price drops.....

Paul Boyer did a nice conversion of a Revell 1/72 B-1B for one of the FSM issues. He did the featherless exhausts by using 1/48 F-15 Eagle resin exhausts. They may not be exactly the same, but looked close enough to do the job.

1/48 F-15 featherless arent even close. They will fit and look like featherless but not if you actually see them. Aires has 1/48 as a future release but thats it and two mikes is really really busy and I dont know if they have time to do any bone stuff. Thankfully, Spectre will be doing ALE and the Sniper. I HOPE they do a CWM as well....time will tell. Spectre seems to be taking really good care of the 1/72 community lately.

From what I understand, 2Mikes is working on a lot of bone stuff for release this august...IIRC it was mentioned that 1/72 AND 1/48 scale were getting new stuff like the bomb bays. I could be wrong though, Im still waiting on more information myself.
