F-4E Phantom II IRIAF

Recommended Posts

Thanx namesake, dragan and Bosse :cop:

Yup I like it...it almost looks like a scheme on its own with the decals.

BTW for you phantom experts out there, on tha yellow decal on upper side of the nose infront of the windscreen, is there a string like on the Tomcat for dertermining wind directions?

Thanx diego!

And a cood catch...I had forgotten those decals!

Cheers!

To be sure: you need the small "3" on the tail ( decals N° 26 & 27), then the "IRIAF 01544" (decals N° 14 & 15), and then the small "3-6642" ( decals N° 20 & 21) on the nose intakes...

Greetings

Diego

There s a string, but the yelow line is not connected / responsible for that! It s located directly in front of the middle windscreen (and there s a "hole" too, I guess it s an outlet for air to blow off water from the screen!?). I m sure there much more experienced Phantomaniacs there to correct /confirm!

Aha, thanx for the clarification TobK

Now I´ve added the missing decals (not before ruining one IRIAF decals, I fixed it with an IIAF decal where I added an R from a korean decal...actually cool that they were the same saize½). The decals are now sealed with a coat of future and left to cure :worship:

Uhh...seams to be a job for guys with nerves as strong as bass guitar strings!?? I will head to a similar job: a F-4D IIAF 1/48, and will use the IIAF decals from Diego too! But I will use the stencils from the Revell F-4C/D and the panel numbers from an Airdoc stencil set for british phantoms. (hehe...what a mix!!??). Wish me luck! ;-)

Great job. I'm currently in the process of decaling my F-4E AUP and after my RF-4 last year I can sense your relief after finishing the decals :worship:

I notice that the Speed brake wells on your build are White, is this the case with the Iranian birds as all the Phantoms that I've seen they are the same colour as the undersides.

Good luck!

I too used 3 different decal sheets to get to the end.....almost 4 since I cut out thin red strips from the in box decal sheet s as well :P

WOOOHOOOAAAA... GREAT ONE:....

Thanx Tomcat Fan :D

Thanx scott :D

Now that you mention it I more or less just asumed they were white..... when I look at refs the brake wells are so much cleaner than the underside of the plane that I thought it looked white :P

Oh well...I doubt the judges will see much anyways on saturday.

Yeah I forgot to mention,

This Saturday our local model event begins, Modell Göteborg, and it´s one of the "big" three modelling events in Sweden. I´ll be competeing with 6 models and hosting a table for our local IPMS forum.

All in all I´ll be bringing in the order of 17 or so models to the event.

Cheers!

Now THAT'S a lot of decals!

Finally found this thread, mate, and I must say it's a Phabulous Phantom! That paintjob is a piece of art! Keep up the good work now, all the way to the end. :)

Great work with the decals Janne! I remember when I had to put 400+ stencils on the wings of 1/144 An-124...

One question though; Since you've made the war beaten Phantom with all the faded paint - are you gonna fade the markings, too?

Thanx Seb ;)

Yup, there´s no way around it really...can´t have pristine markings on a worn old bird eh?

And the pylons and wepaons got the last of the decals!

I´m all done!

BTW wonder why the Phantom never got a one piece canopy like the F-14?

The Sparrows got some attention from the Pro Modeller box...really nice decals actually.

And the Pylons got the last 40 decals

OK...I couldn´t help myself!

I´ve started playing around with washes and stuff :P

I begun wiht the underside since it´ll be the dirtiest and grimiest belly of the best you ever saw! I mean this baby´s being flying sorties for weeks! and it´s in the beginning of the war, there´s simply no time to waaste ojn cleaning the AC, just fuel it up and send it on it´s way with more bombs to try and halt the Iraqi offensive!

There´s the scenario you have to keep in your head when you look at the totally overdone weathering :)

I started with a thin wash of a mix of burnt Umber and black and covered everything with it...it´s to set the tone and blend in the decals.

IMG_1461.jpg

The wash stayed on for about 40 minutes before i started whiping it off....and it surely set the tone I´d say :P

IMG_1463.jpg

Then I made spots with burnt sienna and pulled my finger through it to make oily streaks.

IMG_1465.jpg

After that I made black spots and did the finger trick ....

IMG_1466.jpg

It´s all shiny still, when the flat coat comes on it´ll brighten up a bit and be a bit more homogenous. I angled away from the light a bit to show an idea of what it´ll look like without too much glare ;)

IMG_1467.jpg

Dirty enough for you?

/edit..got the oils wrong :P
